CCM Acting Presents Annual Senior Showcase on March 29

Enjoy the talents of the CCM Acting Class of 2019 in its exciting senior showcase in Cincinnati prior to its professional debut in New York and Los Angeles.

Graduating students from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music’s Acting program present the annual Senior Showcase at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. this Friday, March 29, 2019, in CCM’s Robert J. Werner Recital Hall.

CCM Acting’s Class of 2019 will also present the showcase at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on April 2, 2019, at New York’s Griffin Theatre at the Pershing Square Signature Center. The showcase will also be performed at 1 p.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. on April 16, 2019 at Los Angeles’ Garry Marshall Theatre.

The showcase performance features a variety of scenes by CCM Acting’s Class of 2019, demonstrating the depth and breadth of the acting skills they have honed during their undergraduate training at CCM.

The evening performance in Cincinnati will be followed by the annual DOLLY awards recognizing excellence by students in CCM Acting, as well as a reception in the CCM Baur Room. Event details are below.

Meet CCM Acting’s Class of 2019

Jacqueline Daaleman is a graduate of the BFA Acting program at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM). Born and raised in northern New Jersey, no, she still does not know how to pump gas. At CCM, she played Phoebe in Gracie Gardner’s world premiere of Very Dumb Kids, Voltaire in Candide with CCM Opera and Dabby Bryant in Our Country’s Good. Other favorite credits include: Launce in The Two Gentleman of Verona with RADA (London, UK), Linda in Charlie’s Girls at the Boulder Fringe Festival and Pearl Bryan in Pearl Bryan with InBocca Performance (KY). Film credits and voice over credits include: “Poetry Girl” (Amazon), “CRAIG” and “A Model Friendship”. Gabriella DiVincenzo is a Massachusetts native and is filled with joy to be graduating with a BFA in Acting from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM). She was seen on the CCM stage in Hamlet as Horatio and The Government Inspector as Anna Andreyevna. She made her professional debut at the Know Theatre of Cincinnati as Amanda in Darkest Night at the Gnarly Stump. Her favorite film experience in was “You’ve Met Your Match“ when she played a feisty femme fatale. She is wildly passionate about theatre and has worked as a director/producer on many of her own projects, including LUNGS and Men on Boats at the Liberty Exhibition Hall in Cincinnati. Sarah Durham is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) with a BFA in Acting, and minor in Directing and Filmmaking. She has acted in many film festival winning shorts, and acts, writes, directs and produces for film and theatre. She is certified in Rapier and Dagger, Single Sword, Broadsword and Recommended in Unarmed Combat by the SAFD. Some of her favorite roles include Men on Boats (William Dunn), Di and Viv and Rose (Diane), and Shakespeare’s Fine Wit (Hermia). When she’s not busy with theatre and film, she loves running ultra-marathons, painting, reading comic books, playing tennis and basketball, paddle-boarding, kayaking and cuddling her adorable cat, Robin (named after Batman’s Tim Drake). James Egbert earned his BFA in Acting from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM). Originally from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, James has always enjoyed Shakespeare and the classics. Some of his favorite roles on stage include the Lead in the one man show Every Brilliant Thing, Friar Lawrence in Romeo and Juliet and the Father in Sarah Ruhl’s Eurydice. Some of his favorite film credits include his hero in the award winning Casper (produced by HighSock Productions), and his comedic relief in the horror film House of Hell (Directed by Jacob Berry). He is accomplished in Stage Combat, and specializes in Rapier and Dagger, Unarmed, Single Sword and Broadsword. In addition to acting, James loves playing chess, writing and all things Star Wars. Ella Eggold is a young artist who is passionate about using theater as a way to bring light and connection to places that do not have enough of either. Ella has earned a BFA in Acting from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) and is also a classically trained vocalist. Favorite credits include Helena in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Purdue University), Gertrude in Hamlet (CCM), Lanie in God’s Ear (Purdue University), Rose in Di and Viv and Rose (Whoville Theater) and Bottom in Shakespeare’s Fine Wit (CCM). Although the majority of Ella’s training has been in acting, she has experience in producing, stage managing, set design/set building and lighting. Carter LaCava is an actor, writer, producer and painter with a BFA in acting from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory (CCM). Some of his favorite credits from CCM include: The Ghost/Gravedigger in Hamlet, Ivan Alexandrovich Hlestakov in The Government Inspector and Robert Sideway in Our Country’s Good. Some credits outside CCM include: Notwet in the New Stroke Ensemble’s Twothousandelever, Even in The Aliens at Rohs Street Café, and he performed in a reinterpretation of John Cage’s Theatre Piece No. 1 with the SITI company in Saratoga Springs, NY. In 2017 he trained at Skidmore College for the month-long SITI summer theatre workshop, and has since continued his individual physical theatre practice. He is also an actor-combatant with the SAFD, with a certificate in Rapier and Dagger and in Unarmed. Outside of the theater he enjoys long walks in the local park, playing RuneScape and painting. Madeleine Page-Schmit is thrilled to have earned her BFA in Acting from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM). Her favorite CCM credits include: Our Country’s Good (Mary Brenham), Di and Viv and Rose (Viv), Con Amore: A Romeo and Juliet Selection (Juliet) and Eurydice (Little Stone). Madeleine wrote, produced and performed an original one-woman show, Casquette Girl, which premiered at the Clifton Performance Theatre in Cincinnati. Casquette Girl is based on the life of her 18th century French ancestor and is charged with forgotten history and themes of female disempowerment and immigrant resilience. Madeleine has studied global health and Buddhism in Thailand, visited the Chinese village where her grandmother was raised, lived with a host family in rural Senegal and written and performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. R. Graham Rogers is an actor, writer, director and producer who recently earned his BFA in Acting from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM). Some of Graham’s CCM highlights include: The Mayor in The Government Inspector, Various Men (eight!) in the world premiere of The Earth is Flat and Landscaper/Attendant/Man on Date in Middletown by Will Eno. Graham’s film highlights include: the Joker in You’ve Met Your Match, a Batman gay fanfic; College Boys and HighSock Productions’ The Update. Graham loves being a part of and creating new works. He’s been a part of at least eight theatrical world premieres to date, plus more than 20 student films, thanks, in large part, to three years as co-Artistic Director of a small production company he and his roommate ran while in school. CCM Musical Theatre Presents Annual Senior Showcase March 17 and 19

CCM Musical Theatre’s class of 2016.

Cincinnati audiences will get a sneak peek of an original showcase created by the 2016 graduating class from CCM’s Department of Musical Theatre during the annual “Not Famous Yet” Showcase, which runs on March 17 (CCMpower benefit performance) and March 19 in UC’s Patricia Corbett Theater.

The March 17 benefit performance starts at 7 p.m. and features dinner-by-the-bite and a post-performance celebration. Tickets for this benefit event are on sale now. For tickets and additional information, visit ccm.weshareonline.org/ws/opportunities/NotFamousYetShowcase2016.

The March 19 performances take place at 4 and 8 p.m. and are free, but reservations are required. Tickets for these free performances become available at the CCM Box Office at noon on Monday, March 14, 2016.

Each year, seniors from CCM’s musical theatre program travel to New York to present a showcase for the leading agents, casting directors and managers in the business. The show takes the format of a Broadway audition, with the actors showing off their solo and ensemble skills through song and dance numbers. This year’s work is created by the students themselves under the supervision of program chair Aubrey Berg, with musical direction by Julie Spangler and musical staging by Samantha Pollino.

This year’s performance is the 24th edition of the CCM “Not Famous Yet” showcase. The annual showcase began with the establishment of the Patricia A. Corbett Distinguished Chair of Musical Theatre in 1991. CCMpower Benefit Performance
The opening performance of the Musical Theatre Showcase on March 17 is part of a benefit for CCMpower. The event begins at 7 p.m. and includes dinner by the bite.

This event also includes the presentation of the Musical Theatre Young Alumni Award, which recognizes outstanding professional achievement by graduates of CCM’s musical theatre program from the past two decades. This year’s recipient is Lisa Howard (BFA Musical Theatre, 1997).

A native of Akron, Ohio, Howard began her performing career with the ETC All American Youth Show Choir and Firestone High School’s performing arts department before heading to CCM.

She has worked at prominent regional theaters across the country including the St. Louis MUNY, Kansas City Starlight, the Olney Center, Goodspeed Opera House, Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera and Barrington Stage Company. She has performed in the national touring company of Les Misérables.

On Broadway, Howard has been seen as Diva 1 in Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, Missy Hart in 9 to 5, Head Nurse in Lincoln Center’s TONY award winning revival of South Pacific and – most notably – as Rona Lisa Peretti in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, for which she won a Drama Desk Award for Best Ensemble Performance.

In the concert scene, Howard has performed in “Broadway Today” produced by the Spot-On Entertainment Co. and in the Kaufman Center’s Broadway Close-up Series in “Stephen Schwartz: Magic To Do” and William Finn’s “More Infinite Joy” and “Even More Infinite Joy” at Merkin Hall. She has sung with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and with Peter Nero and the Philly Pops. At Town Hall in NYC, Howard has performed in “Broadway Unplugged,” “A Night At The Operetta” and the popular “Broadway By The Year” series.

Howard’s debut solo CD, Songs of Innocence and Experience: the Music of William Finn was released in the Spring of 2011. Her TV and film credits include Ugly Betty and the Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part II.

The highlight of the Dolly Awards ceremony will be the presentation of the 2016 Julia Winter Cohen Career Excellence Award to a graduate of CCM Drama. This year’s honoree is alumnus Michael Littig (BFA Drama, 2005).

Littig has worked as an actor, teaching artist and theatre maker. As an actor, his US credits include NYSF/Public Theater, Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, Shakespeare Theater of New Jersey, Portland Stage Company, Los Angeles Theater Center, Z Space, Hangar Theater, the Utah Shakespeare Festival and the Hippodrome Theatre as a resident company member.

Internationally, Littig has performed in A Dreamplay (United Arab Emirates), Juárez: A Documentary Mythology (Mexico/UAE/Lebanon), HEARTPIECE (Mongolia) and Hamlet/Ur Hamlet (UAE) as an associate artist with New York/Abu Dhabi-based Theater Mitu. In addition, Littig has diligently continued various global research initiatives towards a continuous development and articulation of Theater Mitu’s training methodology of “Whole Theater.”

Littig has served on faculty at the NYU Graduate Actor Training Program, Shakespeare Society, Stella Adler Conservatory and is a co-founder of the Patrick Page Studio in New York. His awards and recognition include a NEA Arts Works grant, a NEFA Touring grant and a Fulbright Fellowship to examine the relationship between a shaman and an actor in Mongolia.

Littig is the founder of the Great Globe Foundation and the Dadaab Theater Project. The work of the Great Globe Foundation has facilitated artistic collaborations with the United Nations High Council for Refugees, US State Department, Save the Children and FilmAid International. At present time, the Dadaab Theater Project continues in Africa in collaboration with Real Life Poets, a poetry exchange program between Alabama students and refugees living in Kenya.

The evening will also include tributes to CCM faculty members Diane Kvapil and R. Terrell Finney, both of whom will retire at the end of the semester. A faculty member since 1977, Professor Kvapil received the Acclaim Award for Outstanding Theatre Educator in 2011. A faculty member since 1983, Professor Finney currently serves as CCM’s Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and Director of Graduate Studies. He is also currently serving as president of the National Association of Schools of Theatre.

The highlight of the ceremony will be the presentation of the 2015 Julia Winter Cohen Career Excellence Award to a graduate of CCM Drama. This year’s honoree is Keith Pillow, CCM Drama class of 1989. An accomplished film and television actor, Pillow has had recurring roles on Judging Amy, The Shield, The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Awkward and Pretty Little Liars. He has made guest appearances on The Mentalist, Glee, The Goldbergs, Law & Order L.A., TheCloser, Nip/Tuck, Hot in Cleveland, 24, CSI, Cold Case, The Young and the Restless, General Hospital and The Bold and the Beautiful, to name but a few. A classically trained singer and actor, Pillow is also very much at home on the stage. His credits include the Broadway touring company of Show Boat, the role of Pontius Pilate in the European tour of Jesus Christ Superstar, the role of Hud in the European tour of Hair and the role of Jim in the national tour of Big River. He was also featured at the prestigious Theater des Westens in Berlin as Jacob in La Cage aux Folles, and in productions of My Fair Lady, Anything Goes and Evita. In addition to his television and stage credits, Pillow has appeared in over 20 national and regional commercials and numerous films.

About Diane Kvapil

CCM Associate Professor of Drama Diane Kvapil.

Diane L. Kvapil studied at Catholic University in Washington, D.C., and the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York City with Sanford Meisner. She joined CCM’s faculty in 1977 and currently serves as Associate Professor of Drama. Kvapil has directed several notable productions during her time at CCM, including Trojan Woman (with original music by Richard Oberacker), Our Town, Three Sisters (which won the Acclaim Award for Outstanding Ensemble) and Tom Stoppard’s Arcadia. In 2011, she received the Acclaim Award for Outstanding Theatre Educator.

Featured in numerous regional and national touring productions as well as WNET and NBC telecasts, Kvapil has also performed with National Players in Japan, Korea, Canada, North Africa and Bermuda. She is in demand for on-camera commercial work as well as voice overs for radio and television. As a writer, Kvapil has had a teleplay produced for NBC’s Young People’s Specials. She studied with American actor and acting teacher Eric Morris during the summer of 1987.

About R. Terrell Finney

CCM Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, Director of Graduate Studies and Professor of Drama Terrell Finney.

R. Terrell Finney, Jr. is the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Director of Graduate Studies and a Professor of Drama at CCM. A faculty member since 1983, his recent directing credits include Charley’s Aunt, Floyd Collins, Dancing at Lughnasa, The Diviners, Myths and Hymns, As You Like It,Lend Me A Tenor, Chekhov in Yalta, Blithe Spirit and the world premiere of Clever Dick for CCM/Ensemble Theatre of Cincinnati, among others. He has also served as a faculty member at Birmingham-Southern College and the Cincinnati School for Creative and Performing Arts.

Finney is a former artistic director of the Showboat Majestic where selected productions included Crimes of the Heart and They’re Playing Our Song. He also directed The Importance of Being Earnest for the Cincinnati Shakespeare Festival. Acting credits include Nurse Nanny Fanny in ETC’s Snow White, Hysterium in the Hot Summer Nights production of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum and Argon in CCM’sThe Imaginary Invalid. He has also served as narrator for the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra.

A graduate of the MFA directing program at Boston University, he spent the summers of 1992 and 1995 in training programs with the Royal National Theatre of Great Britain. A past president of the Ohio Theatre Alliance, Finney previously served as the head of the Division of Opera, Musical Theatere, Drama and Arts Administration at CCM and acted as producer of CCM’s acclaimed Hot Summer Nights from 1998 to 2002. A member of Actors’ Equity Association, he is currently serving as President of the National Association of Schools of Theatre and frequently serves as a consultant to theatre programs across the United States.

Although Finney is retiring this spring, he will make a return to CCM’s Mainstage Series to direct Eugene O’Neill’s Ah, Wilderness! in February of 2016. CCM Musical Theatre Presents Annual Senior Showcase March 26 and 28

Cincinnati audiences will get a sneak peek of an original showcase created by the 2015 graduating class from CCM’s Department of Musical Theatre during the annual “Not Famous Yet” Showcase, which runs on March 26 (Friends of CCM benefit performance) and March 28 in UC’s Patricia Corbett Theater.

The March 26 benefit performance starts at 7 p.m. and features dinner by the bite and a post-performance celebration. Tickets for this benefit event are on sale now. For tickets and additional information, visit ccm.weshareonline.org/ws/opportunities/NotFamousYetShowcase2015.

The March 28 performances take place at 4 and 8 p.m. and are free, but reservations are required. Tickets for these free performances become available at noon on Monday, March 23.

Each year, seniors from CCM’s musical theatre program travel to New York to present a showcase for the leading agents, casting directors and managers in the business. The show takes the format of a Broadway audition, with the actors showing off their solo and ensemble skills through song and dance numbers. The work is created by the students themselves under the supervision of program chair Aubrey Berg and with the assistance of musical director Julie Spangler.

This year’s performance is the 23rd edition of the CCM “Not Famous Yet” showcase. The annual showcase began with the establishment of the Patricia A. Corbett Distinguished Chair of Musical Theatre in 1991. Friends of CCM Benefit Performance
The opening performance of the Musical Theatre Showcase on March 26 is part of a benefit for the Friends of CCM. The event begins at 7 p.m. and includes dinner by the bite.

This event also includes the presentation of the Musical Theatre Young Alumni Award, which recognizes outstanding professional achievement by graduates of CCM’s musical theatre program from the past two decades. This year’s recipient is Mickey Fisher, who graduated from UC in 1995.

A writer, director and actor, Fisher created and serves as executive producer for Extant, a science fiction television program developed by Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television and CBS Television studios. The thriller stars Academy Award-winner Halle Berry and is currently shooting its second season. Fisher’s credits also include the films King of Iron Town and Summer Nuts, as well as the musical Something in the Water.

Tickets for the March 26 benefit are:

• Patron Tickets: $100 each; includes a patron reception before the performance honoring Mickey Fisher, general performance seating, dinner by the bite and garage parking.
• General Public Tickets: $75 each; includes general performance seating, dinner by the bite and garage parking.
• Friends of CCM Member Tickets: $50 each; includes general performance seating, dinner by the bite and garage parking.
• Young Professional (40 and under) and CCM Alumni Tickets: $35 each; includes general performance seating, dinner by the bite and garage parking.

CCM Spring 2015 Calendar of Major Events – April Updates

Please note the following updates to CCM’s schedule of major events for the spring:

• The Pangea Chamber Players guest artist concert originally scheduled for April 2 has been cancelled.
• The April 12 performance of Chuck Owen’s River Runs features the CCM Concert Orchestra, not the CCM Philharmonia.
• The venue has changed for CCM’s April 19 performance of Dave Brubeck’s The Gates of Justice. The concert will now take place at Knox Presbyterian Church, 3400 Michigan Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45208
• The faculty artist concert entitled “The Original Phil DeGreg and Friends” has been rescheduled for 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22. This celebration of the career of retiring faculty member Phil DeGreg will take place in Patricia Corbett Theater. The performance is free and open to the general public. You can listen to Professor DeGreg preview his concert, which was originally scheduled for Feb. 17, courtesy of WVXU 91.7 FM.
• CCM welcomes composer Mark Applebaum for a guest artist performance at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 25 in Watson the Robert J. Werner Recital Hall. This performance is free and open to the general public.
• CCM’s Division of Electronic Media will host its Senior Showcase at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 30 in Watson Hall. Admission to the event is free and open to the general public.

CCM Snags the Award-Winning Punk Rock Musical ‘American Idiot’ for An Exciting and Eclectic 2015-16 Mainstage Series

CCM has secured the rights to present the Tony Award-winning musical blockbuster American Idiot as part of its 2015-16 Mainstage Series. Running March 3 – 13, 2016, in CCM’s Patricia Corbett Theater, this will be the first local production of the acclaimed rock opera.

A critical smash on Broadway and in London, American Idiot is based on the Grammy Award-winning album of the same name by American punk rock band Green Day. The two-time Tony Award-winning musical tells the story of three disillusioned youths who are forced to choose between freedom and the safety of suburbia.

Inspired in part by such classic concept albums as The Who’s Tommy, The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Jesus Christ Superstar, American Idiot premiered at the Berkeley Repertory Theatre in 2009 and finished its most recent national tour in May 2014. With a raucous and exhilarating punk rock score, American Idiot boldly takes musical theatre where it has never gone before. For both the students and the faculty members at CCM, the boundary-pushing nature of this contemporary musical perfectly complements the college’s educational mission.

“Our production philosophy in the Musical Theatre program is simple,” explains Aubrey Berg, CCM’s Patricia A. Corbett Distinguished Chair of Musical Theatre and the director of this upcoming production. “During the four years a student spends with us, they will be exposed to every kind of musical theatre work. In the last few years, we have undertaken shows as varied as the groundbreaking Oklahoma!, the fancy foot-work of Singin’ in the Rain, the moving spectacle of Les Misérables and the beloved childhood fantasy of Peter Pan. And that does not include our Studio Series, which features such cutting-edge works as Carrie and Blood Brothers. Forgotten musicals are also well represented in our Musicals Redux Series, which digs into the great storehouse of musical theatre history to find some lost gems.” Chairman of CCM’s Department of Musical Theatre since 1987, Berg received the League of Cincinnati Theatres Continuing Achievement Award and was inducted into the CEA Hall of Fame in 2010.

CCM Adjunct Instructor Stephen Goers will join Berg as musical director for this production. The two have frequently collaborated on such musical productions as Into the Woods, Carrie and, most recently, Les Misérables. Over the years, their work together has garnered a large number of local arts awards, including Best Direction, Best Musical Direction and Best Musical.

Taking on a 21st century musical is already proving to be an exciting prospect for students at CCM, many of whom grew up with the original American Idiot concept album, which was released in 2004.

“I think it’s so special to be part of a program that embraces new musicals as well as the classics, in order to provide the most well rounded education possible for its students,” says third-year musical theatre major Tom Meglio. “American Idiot already has everyone in CCM’s Division of Theatre Arts rocking out and ready for some Junior High nostalgia!”

Classmate Taylor Alexander agrees: “The original Green Day album was a groundbreaking staple to our generation with its unique view on youth in America. The whole campus is going to be pumped to hear music we all grew up listening to!”

Described by the New York Times as “invigorating, moving and thrilling… a true rock opera,” American Idiot features a book by Billie Joe Armstrong and Michael Mayer, lyrics by Billie Joe Armstrong and music by the band Green Day. The score features the hits “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” “21 Guns,” “Wake Me Up When September Ends,” “Holiday” and the iconic title track.

CCM will announce its entire 2015-16 Mainstage Series lineup in March of 2015. Running from October of 2015 through April of 2016, the series will include two operas, two musicals, two dramas and one story ballet.

CCM Drama Holds Annual Senior Showcase and Dolly Awards on March 14

CCM’s Class of 2014 in Drama.

CCM’s Department of Drama presents its annual Senior Showcase at 2 and 7 p.m. on Friday, March 14, in UC’s Patricia Corbett Theater. The 12th annual DOLLY Awards Ceremony follows the 7 p.m. showcase performance. These events are free and open to the public. Reservations are not required.

The showcase performance will consist of a variety of scenes by graduating seniors in CCM’s Drama program, demonstrating the depth and breadth of the acting skills they have honed during their undergraduate training at CCM.
