CCM’s new Community Partner the Price Hill String Quartet will present a FREE all-Mendelssohn program beginning at 7:30 p.m. this Thursday, May 2, at the LISH Art Gallery in Price Hill. This concert is open to the general public and will conclude with the first and last movements of the Mendelssohn Octet performed by the Quartet and four members of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra!

The Price Hill Quartet is the string quartet of Music for Youth in Cincinnati (MYCincinnati). The Quartet is comprised of two MYCincinnati directors and two current CCM students, and is funded in part by CCM and CCM’s ArtsWave Community Partnership grant.

Ariel String Quartet’s Inaugural CCM Concert Series Continues Dec. 4

The Ariel String Quartet‘s inaugural CCM concert series continues at 8 p.m. next Tuesday, Dec. 4 in UC’s Robert J. Werner Recital Hall. Winners of the Fischoff Grand Prize, the Quartet’s program is scheduled to include:

  • Erwin Schulhoff: String Quartet No.1
  • Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: String Quartet No. 21 in D Major, KV 575
  • Johannes Brahms: Piano Quintet in F Minor, Op. 34 (featuring James Tocco, piano)

Last month, the Quartet visited CET, Cincinnati Public Television to record an episode of Showcase with Barbara Kellar. You can view the entire episode here.

Students From CCM’s Starling Program Featured on NPR’s ‘From the Top’

This month, NPR‘s popular program From the Top will feature students from CCM’s Starling String Project, who were taped at the Great Wall International Music Academy in Beijing last summer.

From the Top host Christopher O’Riley travelled to China to tape two concerts led by CCM’s Kurt Sassmannshaus, which will air at 9 a.m. on Nov. 10 and Nov. 17 on Cincinnati’s WGUC (90.9 FM)!

CCM Soprano Featured on NPR’s “From The Top” Next Week

Soprano Alisa Suzanne Jordheim, a student in CCM’s DMA Voice program, appears on an upcoming episode of NPR’s From The Top. The hit radio program features America’s best young classical musicians and is hosted by acclaimed pianist Christopher O’Riley. On the show, Jordheim performs three selections from Gordon Getty’s celebrated song cycle “The White Election,” accompanied by O’Riley. The episode airs nationally next week and locally on WGUC 90.9 FM at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12. The episode was taped before a live audience at the Lincoln Theater Napa Valley on Jan. 23, 2011. ‘Turandot’ Kicks Off CCM Orchestras’ Exciting Winter Series of Concerts

CCM’s Orchestral Studies Program begins the New Year in an exciting collaboration with Central Opera, Beijing, the Greater Cincinnati Chinese Music Society, CCM Chamber Choir, Chorale and Cincinnati Children’s Choir in a momentous concert performance of Puccini’s beloved Turandot. The celebration continues with some of the greatest composers of the orchestral repertoire being featured, including a “Stravinsky Festival” with the CCM Chamber Choir and Chorale and a Gustav Mahler commemoration concert. CCM’s Schumann Bicentennial Festival Concludes Tonight

CCM Orchestras’ celebration of Robert Schumann’s repertoire concludes this evening (Nov. 5) with an 8 p.m. finale concert in Corbett Auditorium featuring the Philharmonia Orchestra. Ulrich Nicolai, conductor and professor at the Hochscule für Musik und Theater (University of Music and Performing Arts) in Munich, guest conducts. Tickets are $10 general admission, $5 non-UC students, UC students FREE.

CCM Orchestras Commemorate the 200th Anniversary of Robert Schumann’s Birth

CCM Orchestras will begin its fall concert season with the Schumann Bicentennial Festival, a celebration of Schumann’s timeless compositional prowess and diverse repertoire. Performances will showcase symphonies, overtures and the Piano Concerto in A Minor, with soloist and Eminent Scholar in Chamber Music, James Tocco. Ulrich Nicolai, conductor and professor at the Hochscule für Musik und Theater (University of Music and Performing Arts) in Munich, will guest conduct the festival’s opening and closing concerts. A series of free Schumann Festival Atrium Concerts will also be held to commemorate the 200th Anniversary of Robert Schumann’s birth.
