Program Spotlight: CCM Classical Guitar

Declared “one of this country’s leading conservatories” by the New York Times, CCM provides first-rate Bachelor of Music and Master of Music programs in Classical Guitar. Applications are open to join CCM’s fall 2021 class; apply by December 1.

Study is strongly performance-based and the cornerstone of the program is private lessons with faculty, who serve as mentors for students and direct their individual musical, performing and teaching growth.

Classical Guitar curriculum emphasizes the development of the well-rounded, holistic musician by providing a solid background in music history and theory as well as areas specific to each musical medium. Undergraduate students enjoy a close collaboration with the University of Cincinnati through a general education core that supplements their education with academic course work while graduate students specialize more precisely in their chosen field.

“In the CCM guitar program we never neglect the past, but we can’t afford to pretend we don’t live in the present,” says Chris Wilke, director of CCM Classical Guitar. “Our ultimate goal is to prepare true musicians for a professional career in the 21st century.”

All incoming students in 2021-22 will receive an iPad, which will be equipped for audio-visual work to help students gain digital career skills crucial for 21st-century musicians.

CCM Welcomes Emilee Suchomski to its Admissions Team

The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music is delighted to welcome Emilee Suchomski as the newest member of its Admissions Office team. Suchomski will serve as an Admissions Counselor and Undergraduate Admissions Officer at CCM.

Prior to her new role at CCM, Suchomski worked in undergraduate admissions at Miami University for nearly six years, most recently as Miami’s Assistant Director of International Recruitment.

Originally from Chicago, Suchomski relocated to Cincinnati five years ago and previously worked for the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. She has a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology from Beloit College, where she also played in both the wind ensemble and the orchestra. She earned a master’s degree in Education from Miami University.

Suchomski plays both bassoon and clarinet and describes herself as an avid musical theatre enthusiast. Her appointment in CCM’s Admissions Office begins Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2020.

Apply Now to Study Musicology at CCM

Named “one of the continent’s major music schools” by the Toronto Star, CCM offers a comprehensive learning experience for students interested in pursuing careers in Musicology. Applications are now open to join CCM’s Fall 2018 class!

Musicology students at CCM work closely with internationally recognized musicology faculty. In addition, students engage with the rich and diverse CCM arts community, which includes composition, theory, performance, e-media, scenic design, dance and acting majors. Musicologists also pursue interdisciplinary research across campus.

CCM offers MM and PhD degrees, as well as a combined MM/PhD in Musicology. Graduate students are given ample opportunities to teach both lower and upper-level courses and develop pedagogical skills. Renowned scholars visit CCM regularly to teach, lecture and meet informally with students to discuss their research.

Students are eligible for generous four and six-year financial packages, and may receive summer support for comprehensive exam preparation. CCM also provides support opportunities for student research, conference attendance and dissertation completion.

Student Experience
CCM’s Musicology curriculum includes seminars in special topics, which reflect the research interests of faculty members. The Musicology Colloquium assists students in their professional development and offers students the opportunity to present their research and participate in scholarly discourse.

Founded in 1986, the Music Research Forum is a peer-reviewed journal edited and produced by CCM graduate students. In addition, CCM students organize and develop the biennial Music Theory and Musicology Society’s scholarly conference.

Funded by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, this one-of-a-kind program provides an unparalleled learning experience for violin, viola, violoncello and double bass players coming from populations that are historically underrepresented in classical music. Fellows receive full tuition scholarship support while earning a Master of Music or Artist Diploma degree at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.

UC’s College-Conservatory of Music Announces New Scholarship for SCPA Students

CCM is proud to announce a new scholarship opportunity for students graduating from the School for Creative and Performing Arts (SCPA), Cincinnati’s world-class public arts school. This scholarship will be offered to the top SCPA student who successfully applies for admission to CCM each year. The award will cover full tuition for all four years of an undergraduate’s course of study at CCM.

“This commitment to support local talent is in my mind unprecedented and long overdue,” says Peter Landgren, Dean and Thomas James Kelly Professor of Music at CCM. “It is my hope that this full scholarship to CCM will serve as a catalyst for all SCPA students, affirming that a college education at CCM – a nationally ranked and internationally renowned institution for the performing and media arts – is an attainable goal.”

“This scholarship opportunity will have a profound impact on our programs at SCPA and will serve as a powerful motivator to our high school students,” says Isidore L. Rudnick, Artistic Director at SCPA.

The inaugural scholarship to CCM will be offered for Fall of 2015 and will cover full tuition through the 2018-19 academic year. CCM’s Dean will select the scholarship recipient each year.

This newly endowed scholarship has been made possible by the funding support of the Friends of CCM volunteer organization and an anonymous family foundation.

“I couldn’t be more proud of the visionary thinking of the local family foundation that agreed to accept the Friends of CCM’s match to fund this initial scholarship,” says Landgren. “While we regularly attract students from 47 US states and 37 countries, this new scholarship allows us to better support the talent that SCPA is nurturing in our own backyard. I am confident that this investment in Cincinnati’s best young artists to study at CCM will yield incredible dividends in the years ahead.”

University of Cincinnati Closing at 3 PM Today (Feb. 14, 2014)

Due to inclement weather, the University of Cincinnati will close at 3 p.m. on Friday Feb, 14. Classes are canceled after 3 p.m., and all offices – with the exception of those noted in the UC emergency closing policy (University Rule 30-16-01) – will be closed at 3PM. This announcement includes all campuses of the university.

All of CCM’s public performances on Friday, Feb. 14, are cancelled. Tonight’s performance by the CCM Wind Ensemble has been rescheduled for 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014. Our Studio Series production of L’Étoile will run at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 16. Tonight’s performance of L’Étoile will not be rescheduled.

CCM will continue to hold auditions on Friday, Feb. 14, and Saturday, Feb. 15, as originally scheduled. If you are unable to arrive in Cincinnati for your audition, please contact the CCM Admissions Office at 513-556-9479 or ccmadmis@uc.edu for further information.

CCM Presents Fit Factor Workshop In Conjunction With Performing and Visual Arts College Fair Tomorrow

Want to learn which music school is the best “fit” for your college education? Come learn from the experts! CCM presents “The Fit Factor Workshop” held on UC’s campus in room 400 of the Tangeman University Center tomorrow (Oct. 9) from 5:45 – 6:30 p.m.

This discussion will feature presentations by several admission representatives, including those from CCM, the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University, the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University,New England Conservatory and Oberlin Conservatory.

UC Hosts Performing and Visual Arts College Fair on Oct. 9

The University of Cincinnati welcomes the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) and its Cincinnati Performing and Visual Arts College Fair on Tuesday, Oct. 9. The fair runs from 7–9 p.m. in the Great Hall at Tangeman University Center. Admission is free and open to the public.

College-bound high school students interested in pursuing undergraduate and graduate studies in the areas of music, dance, theatre, visual arts, graphic design and other related disciplines are encouraged to attend this informational event.

CCM will also be hosting “Choosing the Right Music School for You – The Fit Factor Workshop,” a special panel discussion, from 5:45–6:30 p.m. in room 400 of the Tangeman University Center. This discussion will feature presentations by several admission representatives, including those from CCM, the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University, the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University, New England Conservatory and Oberlin Conservatory. Students and parents attending the NACAC fair are invited to participate in this discussion.
