Art of the Piano Concert Series Continues Tonight With Awadagin Pratt and Dennis Thurmond Joint Recital

CCM’s Art of the Piano summer festival and concert series continues at 7 p.m. this evening with a joint recital featuring Tai Chi of Improvisation author Dennis Thurmond and World Piano Competition Artistic Director (and CCM Artist-in-Residence) Awadagin Pratt.

Thurmond and Pratt’s program promises to be a true blending of genres, as the duo present the world premiere of “VII Structures” for two pianos, bass and percussion, which has influences from Bill Evans to Sergei Prokofiev to Keith Jarrett to Olivier Messiaen.

Pratt also promises that the concert will feature a rousing Fourth of July encore!

The Final Round of the 2014 World Piano Competition opens in less than two hours! Tickets are still available, so don’t miss your chance to see 2014 finalists Reed Tetzloff, Feng Bian and Moye Chen each perform with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra! Who will take home the gold? Find out tonight!

Introducing the World Piano Competition’s 2014 Finalists

Without further ado, we are delighted to introduce you to this year’s World Piano Competition finalists! Reed Tetzloff, Feng Bian and Moye Chen will each take the CCM stage with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra during the Finals Concert this Saturday, June 28. Tetzloff, Bian and Chen will compete for a total of $45,000 in prize money as well as a debut recital in New York City. The Art of the Piano Summer Festival and Concert Series Returns to CCM Village June 27 – July 12

This summer, some of the world’s most sought-after piano performers and pedagogues are in residence at UC’s College-Conservatory of Music. For the next two weeks, CCM proudly presents the Art of the Piano workshop and concert series, curated by CCM faculty member and World Piano Competition Artistic Director Awadagin Pratt.

This year’s festival welcomes master teachers Ning An, Enrico Elisi, Hee Sung Joo, Gabriel Kwok, Myong-joo Lee, Yoshikazu Nagai, Andrey Pisarev and Ory Shihor. Several of these guest artists will present special event concerts during the festival in CCM’s beautiful Robert J. Werner Recital Hall.

The concert series opens at 7 p.m. this Friday, June 27, with a performance by World Piano Competition Jury Member Andrey Pisarev.

Flex ticket packages are available for this year’s Art of the Piano Special Event Concerts featuring Pisarev, Hee Sung Joo, Enrico Elisi, Dennis Thurmond and Awadagin Pratt. All student recitals are free and open to the general public. See below for more information.

World Piano Competition Announces 2014 Semifinalists

Six pianists have advanced to the semifinal rounds of the 2014 World Piano Competition!

CCM Video: Highlights from the Opening Day of the 2014 World Piano Competition

The 2014 World Piano Competition got underway yesterday, as 11 of the world’s finest pianists performed in the opening day of the Competition’s First Round. Above, you can enjoy early highlights featuring competitors Reed Tetzloff, Hyun ji You, Maria Fuller and Baron Fenwick.

The Competition resumes at 9 a.m. this morning and runs throughout the day, as 10 more artists compete for a spot in the Semi-Finals!

CCM Spotlights Talented Young Performers and Acclaimed Guest Artists During Summer 2014 Performance Series

Young artists from all corners of the globe will make their way to Cincinnati this summer to work with CCM’s world-class faculty and renowned guest artists while in residence at the state-of-the-art CCM Village.

CCM offers a wide array of high caliber summer programs, and the general public can experience the artistry themselves during a series of nearly 50 public performances and guest artist recitals running Monday, June 9, through Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014.

A complete schedule of summer performances is listed below, with highlights including the World Piano Competition’s Finalists Concert featuring the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra on June 28, the Art of the Piano’s Guest Artist Recital Series (curated by CCM faculty member and World Piano Competition Artistic Director Awadagin Pratt) running June 27 – July 11, the Classical Guitar Workshop’s Concert Series running July 13 – 19 and a semi-staged production of Donizetti’s L’Elisir d’Amore (The Elixir of Love) on Aug. 9.

CCM’s Preparatory Department also hosts a number of workshops and immersion programs at CCM Village and at various off-campus locations throughout the summer, including the Cincinnati Young Artist Chamber Music Workshop Series, which features performances by Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra cellist and CCM faculty member Alan Rafferty, CCM Professor of Viola Catharine Carroll and CCM string quartet-in-residence the Ariel Quartet. Other highlights include the Centerstage Workshop production of Hoodie playing June 27 – 28 at UC Blue Ash’s Muntz Theater and the Cincinnati Children’s Choir’s summer concert on Aug. 2.

CCM proudly presents 2013 World Piano Competition Gold Medalist Marianna Prjevalskaya in concert at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8, as part of the fifth annual Bearcat Piano FestivalTickets for this performance are on sale now.

Prjevalskaya will perform Debussy’s Preludes Book II, along with the following works by Rachmaninoff:

Marianna Prjevalskaya Wins Gold Medal at 2013 World Piano Competition

Congratulations to Marianna Prjevalskaya, Gold Medalist in the Artist Division of the 2013 World Piano Competition. Prjevalskaya receives $20,000, a recording deal with Fanfare Cincinnati and a debut recital in New York.

The Cincinnati Enquirer‘s Janelle Gelfand attended the sold-out Artist Division Finals concert on Saturday, July 13, and provides a full recap here.
