CCM Voice Students Receive Competition Honors

Five CCM voice students were named winners of CCM’s 2012 Opera Scholarship Competition, which was held Saturday, March 31, in CCM’s Corbett Auditorium. The annual competition welcomes current and incoming CCM voice students to compete for scholarships and cash prizes. A panel of judges composed of opera industry professionals selects each year’s class of prizewinners.

CCM’s Staged ‘St. Matthew Passion’ a First in the Midwest

CCM’s Chamber Choir, Philharmonia Orchestra and Cincinnati Children’s Choir combine for an afternoon featuring one of the timeless masterworks of choral music: J.S. Bach’s St. Matthew Passion. This massive staged undertaking, the first of its kind in the Midwest, will be held at St. Peter in Chains Cathedral (Eighth and Plum Street, Downtown Cincinnati) at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 20.

CCM Announces Fall 2011 Calendar of Major Events

CCM is delighted to announce its fall schedule of major performances. Beginning Wednesday, September 28 CCM will present over 50 events, ranging from faculty and guest artist concerts to fully supported opera and musical theatre productions.

CCM Announces Full Schedule of 2011-12 Mainstage Events

The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music’s schedule of major performances for 2011-12 is now available! This year’s season includes over 40 major events, ranging from fully staged operas and musicals to Afro-Cuban jazz concerts and holiday-themed choral extravaganzas.

CCM’s Opera Scholarship Competition Celebrates Excellence in Vocal Performance

CCM will provide local audiences with a first glimpse of tomorrow’s opera stars during the 2011 Opera Scholarship Competition running from 10 a.m. – 3:45 p.m. on Saturday, April 2 in Corbett Auditorium.

25 top young artists will compete for nearly $135,000 in tuition grants and $75,000 in other named awards, including the Corbett Award, Italo Tajo Memorial Award, Andrew White Memorial Award, Seybold-Russell Award, Artman/Straub Award and John Alexander Memorial Award.

Admission is free and open to the general public and audience members will have a chance to weigh in on this year’s competition with the introduction of a new “Audience Favorite” award.

CCM Soprano Featured on NPR’s “From The Top” Next Week

Alisa Suzanne Jordheim

Soprano Alisa Suzanne Jordheim, a student in CCM’s DMA Voice program, appears on an upcoming episode of NPR’s From The Top. The hit radio program features America’s best young classical musicians and is hosted by acclaimed pianist Christopher O’Riley. On the show, Jordheim performs three selections from Gordon Getty’s celebrated song cycle “The White Election,” accompanied by O’Riley. The episode airs nationally next week and locally on WGUC 90.9 FM at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12. The episode was taped before a live audience at the Lincoln Theater Napa Valley on Jan. 23, 2011. CCM Singer Advances to Met Opera Nationals

Congratulations to mezzo-soprano Audrey Walstrom, one of two singers to win first prize in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Regional Auditions held at the Music Institute of Chicago last weekend. Walstrom, who shared first place with baritone Ryan Milstead, will advance to the national semifinals in March. Janelle Gelfand provides more details here.
