CCM Opens Studio Series with the Original Work “Under Construction II”

CCM’s acclaimed Studio Series opens later on this month with the debut of Under Construction II, a new work conceived and choreographed by Diane Lala. “Constructed” with creative input from the performers, Under Construction II explores aspects of love, separation, temptation, deceit, desire and discovery through dance. The work employs a variety of dance styles set to selections by Peter Gabriel, John Williams, Peter Frampton and others to capture the ever-evolving nature of human passion. The production runs Oct. 21 – 23, 2010.

CCM Musical Theatre Grads Key to New Broadway Show

Musical Theatre graduate Josh Brekenridge plays Owen Montgomery in the new Kander and Ebb musical, The Scottsboro Boys, previewing today on Broadway. Musical Theatre graduate Eric Santagata is the assistant director and choreographer to Susan Stroman.

The Associated Press called the pre-Broadway production at the Guthrie Theatre, “Pitch perfect! A staggeringly inventive piece of musical theatre! Entertainment of the highest order, with inspired direction and choreography by Susan Stroman. An exhilarating evening of theatre!” Expections for the Broadway run are very high. CCM’s Annunziata Tomaro Receives Second Prize in International Pedrotti Conducting Competition

CCM faculty member Annunziata Tomaro recently received one of two second prizes (no first prize was awarded) at the International “Antonio Pedrotti” Competition for Orchestra Conductors in Trento, Italy. From a pool of over 500 applicants hailing from 30 countries, 97 conductors took part in the competition, which ran from Sept. 27 through Oct. 2.

CCM Opens Mainstage Series with Thornton Wilder’s “The Matchmaker”

CCM launches its 2010-11 Mainstage Series with Thornton Wilder’s classic comedy The Matchmaker. Sure to induce a chuckle with its timeless humor and slapstick flair, the fun-loving show runs from Oct. 27 (preview) through Oct. 31 in CCM’s Patricia Corbett Theater on the University of Cincinnati campus.

CCM Grad Lights Equestrian Games Opening Ceremony

MFA Lighting Design graduate Tanya Harper just finished up a major project lighting the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games Opening Ceremonies on September 25th. The event was held at the Main Stadium at the Kentucky Horse Park and featured a number of equestrian acts (including William Shatner with one of his harness horses), headliners Wynnona Judd, Denyce Graves, Ronan Tynan and the University of Kentucky Orchestra. Harper described the project as, “A great experience and one I know I could never have accomplished without the education that CCM gave me.”

Announcing CCM’s 2010-11 Studio Series

CCM is pleased to announce details for the 2010-11 CCM Studio Series of opera, musical theatre and drama. This year’s Studio Series features seven productions in CCM’s intimate and versatile “black box” space, the Cohen Family Studio Theater, along with a special Studio Series opera produced in Patricia Corbett Theater and a festival of new dramatic works that will utilize spaces throughout CCM Village.

The Studio Series runs from Oct. 21, 2010 through May 29, 2011. All Studio Series events held in CCM’s Cohen Family Studio Theater are free and open to the general public, although reservations are required. CCM Spoleto – Concerto Orchestrale (Festival Opening Concert)

Things may be quiet at CCM Village in Cincinnati this summer, but the CCM Spoleto Opera and Classical Music Festival is just getting started. CCM Spoleto gave its inaugural performance at the Teatro Nuovo Gian Carlo Menotti to an enthusiastic crowd of locals and students Saturday, July 24. Led by director Annunziata Tomaro, the concert began with Barber’s impressive Overture to “The School for Scandal”. Guest pianist and CCM faculty member James Tocco closed out the first half with Beethoven’s perennial favorite, Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-flat Major “Emperor”. The second half of the evening featured Tchaikovsky’s 5th Symphony in e Minor—showcasing the artistry of the festival’s talented instrumentalists.
