You will have the opportunity to congratulate Professor Callahan yourself by joining us at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 6 as the CCM Classical Guitar Department celebrates its 40th anniversary. This special concert features current students, alumni, Preparatory Department guitarists, summer workshop participants and the premiere of a new commissioned company piece by Jeffrey Van! The concert will be held in UC’s Patricia Corbett Theater and is FREE and open to the general public.

CCM Prep Announces 2013 Summer Programs

The CCM Preparatory Department (CCM Prep) is proud to announce its 2013 summer programs. Opportunities are available for students of all ages to discover and expand their artistic abilities!

This year, CCM will host its first Summer Arts Immersion program for high school students. This program is ideal for both local and out-of-town students who want to experience the excellent faculty and outstanding facilities at CCM. Students may wish to experience dorm life by staying in the nearby residence halls, fully chaperoned by CCM Prep staff. One- and two-week options are available in Musical Theatre, Acting, Dance, Voice, Jazz Ensemble, Wind Ensemble, Saxophone, Chamber Music and String Orchestra. Many opportunities abound in CCM Prep’s Jump In program for younger students, as well as adult learners. These one- and two-week opportunities offer beginning and more advanced students the chance to dance, sing, act and play music. Two Jump In programs are inclusive and welcome special learners: “World Drumming” and “You Can Uke,” directed by CCM Prep faculty member and music therapist Mimi Sinclair. Steel Drum Band Opens CCM’s Spring Semester Concert Series

CCM provides the perfect cure for your winter doldrums this month with the Steel Drum Band’s annual performance. UC’s Corbett Auditorium will be filled with lively rhythms as the Steel Drum Band transports audience members to the island of Trinidad for one magical evening on Saturday, Jan. 12. Russell Burge directs.

CCM’s ‘Making Mozart’ Workshop Series Presents Two Beloved Operas This Summer

While the mercury rises outdoors, a pool of talented young conductors will be generating their own heat during two groundbreaking summer workshops at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM). CCM will welcome students from all corners of the globe for “Making Mozart,” a pair of intensive workshops dedicated to the fine art of conducting Mozart opera.

Dubbed “Finding Figaro” and “Creating Così,” each workshop will culminate with a semi-staged public performance of one of Mozart’s masterworks, complete with orchestra. Le Nozze di Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro) will be performed at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 4 in Patricia Corbett Theater. Così fan tutte will be performed at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 11 in Corbett Auditorium. Tickets for each performance are on sale now at the CCM Box Office.

Art of the Piano Festival Welcomes Celebrated Performers and Pedagogues to CCM

This month, CCM presents an exclusive opportunity for gifted young pianists to work with some of the world’s most sought-after teachers. Art of the Piano starts its festivities on June 18 and runs through June 30, 2012. Taking place in CCM’s Robert J. Werner Recital Hall, students will enjoy daily master classes, take part in student recitals and have the opportunity to see luminaries such as Ann Schein, Awadagin Pratt, Tamás Vásáry, Wonmi Kim and Robert Weirich in performance.

Tickets to the Pratt and Vásáry’s performance on Wednesday, June 20 are $12 for general admission, $11 UC faculty and staff members and $5 for students with valid ID. All other recitals are free and open to the public (see a complete schedule below).

CCM Preparatory Department Announces 2012 Summer Programs

The Preparatory Department of the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM Prep) is now accepting registrations for its 2012 summer programs. Programs will be offered at UC’s Clifton campus and at UC Blue Ash College.

This year’s new program offerings include a theatre camp for adults and a ballet camp for young dancers featuring story ballets.

CCM Doctoral Candidate in Musicology Receives Awards to Fund Research into “Musical Memorials for Abraham Lincoln”

Congratulations to Thomas Kernan, a musicology doctoral candidate at CCM. Earlier this year, Kernan received three awards: the Cincinnati Branch of the English-Speaking Union‘s Research and Travel Grant, UC’s University Research Council Summer Fellowship and the Ohio Federation of Music Clubs‘ Doctoral Scholarship.

CCM’s Art of the Piano Scholarship Competition Announces Winners

Congratulations to John Kamfonas and Martin Leung, co-first prize winners of CCM’s Art of the Piano Scholarship Competition.

Held in conjunction with the Art of the Piano Master Class and Recital Series, the competition took place on July 11 and was judged by Myong Joo Lee, HaeSun Paik and Frank Weinstock.

CCM Celebrates the Sounds of the Classical Guitar July 25-31

Later on this month, CCM will welcome guitar enthusiasts of all ages and levels for the 28th Annual Classical Guitar Workshop. Running from July 25-31, this popular workshop series features intensive sessions on topics ranging from recital preparation and performance to music theory and early music instruments.

The workshop also features a series of six recitals, all of which are free and open to the general public. Each concert is designed to showcase the guitar as a solo instrument, as a chamber music partner or as an ensemble/guitar orchestra member. Enjoy an evening of classical guitar music at any of the following recitals:
