CCM Goes to the Movies with Acclaimed Film Composer and Distinguished UC Alumnus Randy Edelman on Jan. 27

CCM welcomes distinguished UC alumnus Randy Edelman (CCM ’69, HonDoc ’04) back to Corbett Auditorium for one unforgettable evening beginning at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 27. A prominent singer, songwriter, arranger and film scorer, Edelman will bring his film scores to life during this special event concert featuring CCM’s acclaimed Philharmonia Orchestra and Jazz Ensemble.

As a singer/songwriter, Edelman has recorded dozens of solo albums and has toured with popular music acts like the Carpenters and Frank Zappa. His pop songs have been covered by major recording artists including Barry Manilow (“Weekend in New England”) and Olivia Newton-John (“If Love is Real”).

Edelman has also composed over 100 scores for television and film. He wrote the theme to, and scored many episodes of television’s MacGyver and scored dozens of major motion pictures, including The Last of the Mohicans, Gettysburg and DragonHeart. CCM’s Philharmonia and Jazz Ensemble will present these and other works during the Jan. 27 concert event. CCM Wind Orchestra Collaborates with Xavier University Symphonic Winds for Dec. 5 Concert

UC alumnus Matthew Westgate leads the Xavier University Symphonic Winds as part of the Dec. 5 CCM Wind Orchestra concert.

The CCM Wind Orchestra will present a concert celebrating the 60th anniversary of Frederick Fennel’s founding of the modern wind ensemble at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 5, in UC’s Corbett Auditorium under the direction of Glenn D. Price. This performance will also feature guest ensemble Xavier University Symphonic Winds, under the direction of CCM alumnus Matthew Westgate.

UC Men’s and Women’s Choruses and Cabaret Singers Present Their Fall Concert on Nov. 7

The University of Cincinnati Men’s and Women’s Choruses and Cabaret Singers, comprised of students from all 13 of UC’s colleges, present their annual Fall Concert at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 7 in UC’s Corbett Auditorium.

The concert program includes Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy, Op. 80, excerpts from Haydn’s Seasons as well as works by Felix Mendelssohn, Jaakko Mäntyjärvi, Reinis Sejans, David Morrow, Umberto Giadorno and others. Olga Artemova, Michael Fuchs and Steven Berlanga conduct. The concert will also feature a guest performance by the Anderson High School Mixed Chorus under the direction of Sandra Thornton.

CCM’s production of Benny Andersson, Björn Ulvaeus and Tim Rice’s Chess has earned four nominations from the League of Cincinnati Theatres (LCT)! The LCT also distinguished the rock musical as a recommended production: Outstanding Production (musical), Ensemble, Lead Actor (Julian Decker) and Lead Actress (Aubrey Ireland). Congratulations to the entire creative team!

Loosely based on the lives of chess grandmasters Bobby Fischer and Anatoly Karpov, Chess involves a romantic triangle between two top players (an American and a Russian) and the woman who manages one and falls in love with the other.

Are you coming to campus for UC Homecoming this weekend? Come to CCM Village after the Homecoming Kickoff Party at the Myers Alumni Center on Friday for an 8 p.m. performance or come early on Saturday and catch a matinee of A Midsummer Night’s Dream at 2 p.m. (kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.).

UC Homecoming Activities to Close Uptown Streets Oct. 6

Please note: around the University of Cincinnati campus, some streets will close the afternoon of Saturday, Oct. 6, while traffic and parking on other streets will be restricted. If you plan on attending CCM’s 2 or 8 p.m. performances of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream this Saturday, please plan accordingly.

University of Cincinnati Homecoming activities Oct. 6 will feature the annual Homecoming parade around campus at 3 p.m. and the 7 p.m. football game versus Miami University at UC’s Nippert Stadium.

Congratulations to CCM doctoral candidate Jing Huan for winning third prize in China’s first Li Delun National Conducting Competition in Qingdao!

Organized by the Ministry of Culture, China Symphony Development Foundation and Qingdao local government, the competition was held from June 18-23, 2012.
