Congratulations to Thomas Kernan, a musicology doctoral candidate at CCM. Earlier this year, Kernan received three awards: the Cincinnati Branch of the English-Speaking Union‘s Research and Travel Grant, UC’s University Research Council Summer Fellowship and the Ohio Federation of Music Clubs‘ Doctoral Scholarship.

CCM Early Music Lab Performs Medieval Beneventan Chant
CCM’s Early Music Lab will join guest Ensemble 1521 for a free performance of Canto Beneventano, a medieval chant from Santa Sofia Benevento, on Wednesday, June 1 at 8:30 p.m. in CCM’s Albino Gorno Memorial Music Library. Admission to this performance is free.
CCM Hosts Conference of Two Music Societies
For the first time in the nearly fifty-year history of CCM’s musicology program, the department is hosting a national academic conference of the Society for American Music and the International Association for the Study of Popular Music-U.S. Branch. The conference takes place March 9 – 13, Wednesday through Sunday, at the Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza. Scholars and students will be traveling from 41 of the 50 states, as well as such countries as Brazil, Canada, Finland, Great Britain, Italy, Ireland, Japan, Sweden, St. Thomas, Turkey and the West Indies.

Last Thursday, Chancellor Eric D. Fingerhut announced that the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music had become Ohio’s latest Center of Excellence.

CCM Named An Ohio Center of Excellence in Special Ceremonies This Evening
A tradition of excellence dating back to 1867 was recognized tonight in special ceremonies led by Ohio Board of Regents Chancellor Eric D. Fingerhut. In an evening ceremony in the lobby of UC’s Patricia Corbett Theater, Chancellor Fingerhut, UC President Gregory H. Williams, CCM Interim Dean Frank Weinstock and distinguished alumna Pamela Myers (BFA, ‘69) as well as students, patrons, staff and faculty, gathered to recognize the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) as an Ohio Center of Excellence in Music and Theatre Arts. Ceremonies preceded this evening’s sold-out performance of Jonathan Larson’s Rent.
