CCM Dean Peter Landgren has announced the appointment of dancer, choreographer and arts educator Andre Megerdichian to the faculty of CCM’s Department of Dance. Megerdichian joins CCM as an Assistant Professor of Dance beginning in August of 2014.

Megerdichian was born in New York City and raised in Beirut, Athens and Geneva. He has performed for over a decade with such companies and choreographers as the Jose Limon Dance Company, Janis Brenner and Dancers, the Mary Anthony Dance Theatre, Soundance Repertory Company, Reidel Dance Theatre, Daniel Charon and Sean Curran. He was a principal dancer with Dance Kaleidoscope, under the artistic direction of David Hochoy (former rehearsal director of the Martha Graham Dance Company) for seven seasons. During his time in Indiana, Megerdichian was awarded the 2003 Creative Renewal Arts Fellowship by the Indianapolis Arts Council, for his sustained artistic contributions to the community.

CCM and Constella Festival Present the Music of Missy Mazzoli on Oct. 16

Café MoMus, CCM’s new music ensemble, explores the work of Constella Festival Composer-in-Residence Missy Mazzoli in a free concert performance at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 16, in CCM’s Patricia Corbett Theater.

Described by the New York Times as “one of the more consistently inventive, surprising composers now working,” Mazzoli is a composer of chamber, orchestral and operatic works. Her music has been played the world over by performers as varied the Kronos Quartet, eighth blackbird, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, violinist Jennifer Kohn, violist Nadia Sirota, Dublin’s Crash Ensemble and her own group, Victoire.

Victoire’s debut album, titled Cathedral City, was named one of 2010′s best classical albums by the New York Times, the New Yorker and NPR. Her opera, Song from the Uproar, premiered in New York in 2012. The original cast recording was released in November.

Mazzoli joins CCM’s new music ensemble, led by music director Jing Huan, for a special performance as part of the 2013 Constella Festival. On Sunday, Nov. 3, CCM and the Constella Festival will also co-present a unique staged performance of Johann Sebastian Bach’s St. John PassionYou can learn more about that performance here.

Star-Studded Jazz Series Continues This Week At CCM

Earlier this week on her Arts in Focus blog, the Enquirer‘s Janelle Gelfand recapped Cincinnati native Fred Hersch’s intimate recital at CCM, performed before a packed house in Corbett Auditorium.

CCM Jazz’s spring concert series continues at 7 p.m. this Sunday, April 8, as Grammy Award-winner Bob Belden and Grammy-nominee Tim Hagans join CCM’s Jazz Ensemble and Philharmonia Orchestra to present Belden’s acclaimed masterpiece Black Dahlia.

CCM Celebrates Modern Jazz Legends

The CCM Department of Jazz Studies will kick off its spring concert series with a pair of exciting and star-studded collaborative concerts. On Sunday, April 1, CCM’s Jazz Ensemble and Faculty Jazztet will be joined by Cincinnati-native and three-time Grammy Award nominee Fred Hersch for an intimate night of beautiful music.

The Jazz Ensemble will then join forces with CCM’s Philharmonia Orchestra and award-winning arranger and composer Bob Belden to present his celebrated work Black Dahlia in its entirety on Sunday, April 8Both concerts begin at 7 p.m. in Corbett Auditorium.

CCM presents the 14th annual Prism Concert at 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 18 in Corbett Auditorium. This concert event features the CCM Wind Symphony, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Lab Band, UC Men’s Chorus, Percussion Group Cincinnati, Chamber Winds and others performing an entertaining mix of love songs just following the quintessential day of love, Valentine’s Day.
