‘Musical America’ Names Ariel String Quartet New Artists of the Month

Musical America has selected the Ariel String Quartet for its New Artist Spotlight this month!

CCM Announces Fall 2012 Calendar of Major Events

CCM is delighted to announce its fall schedule of performances. The largest single source of performing arts events in the state of Ohio, CCM presents more than 100 public performances this fall, ranging from faculty and guest artist concerts to fully supported opera, drama and musical theatre productions.

This fall’s schedule includes a Beethoven Festival (Sept. 14 – Oct. 12), a Kurt Weill Festival (Oct. 19 – March 10) and a Cage Centennial Celebration (Nov. 5 – Nov. 29). CCM also collaborates with Cincinnati Opera on public workshop performances of two new American operas (Oct. 27 – 28 and Dec. 4 – 5) and presents a pair of concerts in conjunction with the Constella Festival of Music and Fine Arts (Oct. 10 and Oct. 28).

CCM’s Aquarius String Quartet Advances to Fischoff Competition Quarter Finals

Congratulations to the members of the Aquarius String Quartet (Yabing Tan, Yang Liu, Qin Li, Christoph Sassmannshaus) on advancing to the quarter finals in the college division of this year’s Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. These live rounds will start on May 11 in South Bend, Indiana.

Last May, the Polaris String Quartet from CCM’s Starling Project were awarded the first prize in the junior division of the competition.

Founded in 1973 in South Bend, Indiana, the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition has grown to become the largest chamber music competition in the world, and one of the most prestigious classical music prizes attainable today. Since its founding, more than 5,000 musicians have participated, many of whom have gone on to distinguished careers in music performance and education.

Cincinnati’s Classical Stars of Tomorrow Perform in November Concert

The Starling Chamber Orchestra will begin its 2011-2012 concert series at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 20, 2011 at CCM’s Robert J. Werner Recital Hall. This free performance will showcase the versatile pre-college string players as soloists, chamber musicians and as members of the orchestra.

CCM Starling Students Claim Top Prize at the Fischoff Competition

Congratulations to the members of the Polaris String Quartet from CCM’s Starling Project, who were awarded the first prize in the junior division of the Fischoff Competition. The event was held at Notre Dame University in South Bend, Indiana on May 15, 2011. The Gold Medal includes a $2,000 prize as well as an appearance on the nationally syndicated radio program “From The Top.”

The performers of the Polaris Quartet are Jenny Lee (violin), a high school junior from Bloomington, Indiana and a student of Dr. Won-Bin Yim; Billy Fang (violin), a Princeton-bound high school senior from Centerville, Ohio and student of Kurt Sassmannshaus; Demi Fang (viola), a high school sophomore, also from Centerville, Ohio and also a student of Kurt Sassmannshaus; and Josh Halpern (cello), a high school junior from Dayton and a student of Alan Rafferty.
