Celebrate the Holidays with CCM’s Annual Feast of Carols

CCM ushers in the holidays on Saturday, Dec. 7 and Sunday, Dec. 8, 2019, with Feast of Carols, an annual concert featuring festive choral favorites performed by the CCM Chamber Choir, Chorale and Concert Orchestra; UC Men’s and Women’s Choruses, Cincinnati Youth Choir and outstanding guest choirs from local high schools.

A tradition that dates back more than 100 years, Feast of Carols showcases an eclectic mix of holiday songs including classics like Carol of the Bells, Angels We Have Heard on High, Joy to the World, Silent Night, and many more.

Conductors Earl Rivers, Brett Scott, Robyn Lana, Molly Getsinger, Matthew Coffey, Sarah J. Baker, Tracy Carpenter, Anthony Nims and Jeffrey Stern lead the choirs on stage and invite audience members to join in for “carol sings” throughout the performance.

The featured guest choir during the 2 p.m. concert on Saturday, Dec. 7 is the Walnut High School Senior Ensemble, Anthony Nims, director. Little Miami Select Choirs, led by Sarah J. Baker, are featured in the 5 p.m. concert on Saturday, Dec. 7.

The performance at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 8 features St. Xavier High School’s Ensemble X, led by Jeffrey Stern. Milford School Choirs, led by Tracy Carpenter, are featured in the 5 p.m. performance on Sunday, Dec. 8.

CCMONSTAGE presents Feast of Carols on Dec. 7 and 8, 2019, at Corbett Auditorium. Tickets are on sale now through the CCM Box Office; student discounts are available.

CCM Announces Initial 2019-20 Performance Lineup, New Subscription Offerings

Area arts lovers have a new destination for world-class performances in 2019-20. The largest single-source of performing and media arts events in the state of Ohio, the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music has assembled all of its public performances under the new banner of CCMONSTAGE and the new online portal ccmonstage.universitytickets.com, making it easier than ever for audiences to experience the immense talent of the college’s student and faculty artists.

“Before they appear on the world stage, tomorrow’s arts leaders and luminaries get their start on the CCM stage,” says CCM Dean Stanley E. Romanstein, PhD. “CCM is already synonymous with excellence in performing arts education. Beginning this fall, CCMONSTAGE will become synonymous with opportunities for the general public to experience this excellence for themselves.”

This new name and online home for CCM’s wide array of public events is being accompanied by all-new subscription packages, digital sales options and much more. “From our patrons’ first point of contact with the CCM Box Office to the program booklets that they receive when they arrive at each major performance, we are enhancing every aspect of the audience experience with CCMONSTAGE,” says Romanstein.

New Subscription Packages

For the first time ever, subscribers get priority access to the spectacular theatre arts productions presented on all of CCM’s stages. In place of CCM’s conventional Mainstage subscriptions, each genre-specific CCMONSTAGE subscription package is designed to let audiences experience more of what they love most.

CCMONSTAGE’s 2019-20 theatre arts subscription series includes three operas (The Bartered Bride, Partenope and The Magic Flute), four musicals (42^nd Street, The Rocky Horror Show, The Secret Garden and Bright Star), four plays (Lady Windermere’s Fan, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, Clybourne Park and Punk Rock) and three dance programs (The Art of Motion, Student Choreographers’ Showcase and Serenade + The Rite of Spring).

These offerings take the place of CCM’s previous “Mainstage Series” and “Studio Series” designations. The CCMONSTAGE operas, musicals, plays and dance productions staged in the Cohen Family Studio Theater will require paid admission and are now included in CCMONSTAGE subscription packages, allowing patrons to secure their seats in advance for these intimate and adventurous productions.

CCMONSTAGE’s concert subscription offerings include a five-part orchestra series featuring the CCM Philharmonia collaborating with special guests like Louis Langrée and Leslie Dunner, a five-part big band series with the incomparable CCM Jazz Orchestra and Jazz Lab Band and a four-part chamber music series featuring CCM resident artists the Ariel Quartet performing with visiting artists including Alexander Fiterstein and Anton Nel. Patrons can now reserve their seats for all CCMONSTAGE concert subscription offerings.

CCM’s full 2019-20 concert schedule will be announced later this summer and flex concert packages will again be available for purchase.

Patrons now have the option of subscribing to each genre-specific series of events, guaranteeing the best seats in the house at the season’s lowest prices.

Subscriptions and single tickets go on sale to the general public at noon on Monday, Aug. 19, 2019.

Patrons who purchased CCM Mainstage or Ariel Quartet subscriptions in 2018-19 will receive a Pre-Sale Code, which grants them exclusive access to CCM’s new subscriptions before the general on sale date. Pre-Sale Codes are being mailed and emailed to all 2018-19 subscribers.

Serenade + The Rite of Spring

CCM Dance and the CCM Philharmonia present two ballets set to music by two master composers. The first original ballet created by George Balanchine in America, Serenade is set to romantic music by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, who also composed Swan Lake, The Nutcracker and Sleeping Beauty. Set to music by Igor Stravinsky, The Rite of Spring was one of the first examples of modern music and dance when the ballet first premiered in Paris in 1913. Although a riot broke out at the premiere, the legendary work is now regarded as one of the most important ballets of the 20^thcentury. CCM’s production of The Rite of Spring features new choreography by Jiang Qi.

Celebrate the Season with CCM’s Annual Feast of Carols This Weekend

Bring family and friends to enjoy a concert of festive choral favorites on Dec. 8 and 9 at CCM’s Corbett Auditorium.

CCM ushers in the holidays on Dec. 8 and 9, 2018, with Feast of Carols, an annual concert featuring festive choral favorites performed by the CCM Chamber Choir, Chorale and Concert Orchestra; UC Men’s and Women’s Choruses, Cincinnati Youth Choir and outstanding guest choirs from local high schools.

A tradition that dates back decades, Feast of Carols showcases an eclectic mix of holiday songs including classics like “O Come, All Ye Faithful,” “Joy to the World,” “Silent Night,” “Deck the Halls,” and many more.

Conductors Earl Rivers, Brett Scott, Robyn Lana, Matthew Coffey, Molly Getsinger, Amy Thompson, Laurie Wyant, Hope Milthaler and Tracy Carpenter lead the choirs on stage and invite audience members to join in for “carol sings” throughout the performance.

The featured guest choir at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8, is the Oak Hills High School Varsity Singers, conducted by Amy Thompson. The Milford High School Choir, led by Tracy Carpenter, is the featured guest choir at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8.

The 2 p.m. concert on Sunday, Dec. 9, features the School for the Creative and Performing Arts Chorale, led by Laurie Wyant. Kings High School Chamber Choir, led by Hope Milthaler, is featured in the 5 p.m. concert on Sunday, Dec. 9.

Celebrate the Season at CCM with Annual Holiday Concerts

Bring family and friends to CCM to celebrate the season with annual Jazz, Feast of Carols and Cincinnati Children’s Choir holiday-themed concerts.

Swing into the season to the big band sounds of CCM’s hottest bands and coolest voices at the Jazz Holiday Extravaganza at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 29. The concert features the CCM Jazz Orchestra and Jazz Lab Band with Musical Theatre students, led by music directors Scott Belck and Craig Bailey.

Later that week, the annual favorite Feast of Carols returns with performances at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. on both Saturday, Dec. 2 and Sunday, Dec. 3.

A tradition that dates back decades, the Feast of Carols concert embraces a variety of holiday songs ranging from the classic and traditional to the contemporary. CCM’s Chamber Choir, Chorale and Concert Orchestra will be joined by the UC Men’s and Women’s Choruses, Cincinnati Children’s Choir and guest choirs from Walnut Hills High School, Bridgetown Middle School and the Southern Gateway Chorus for four performances of holiday favorites.

Conductors Earl Rivers, Brett Scott, Robyn Lana, Kevin Coker, Molly Getsinger, Jeff Ledgers, Anthony Nims and Chelsey Sweatman lead the choirs on stage and invite the audience members to join in for the spectacular “Fa-La-La” finale.

On Saturday, Dec. 9, the Cincinnati Children’s Choir’s Holiday Concert will feature all 450 members of the Choir, including CCM resident choirs and satellite choirs from across the Tristate area, performing holiday songs from around the globe. Robyn Lana conducts.

CCM’s Fall Choral Series Features Local Collaborations and Iconic Works

Under the direction of CCM Professors Earl Rivers and Brett Scott, CCM’s and UC’s choral ensembles present the Fall 2017 Choral Series. Tickets available through the CCM Box Office.

CCM’s Department of Choral Studies presents six concerts during fall 2017, featuring collaborations with local ensembles and iconic works by Gioachino Rossini and J.S. Bach.

CCM Chorale gives voice to Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 15, in CCM’s Dieterle Vocal Arts Center, Room 300. One of Rossini’s last works, Petite Messe Solennelle will be performed in the original chamber version of 1863 for 12 solo and semi-solo singers, two pianos and harmonium.

The UC Men’s and Women’s Choruses present Choral Classics in Patricia Corbett Theater on Oct. 31, which includes works by Fauré, Holmes, Koppin, Mendelssohn, Pergolesi and Tormis.

Series highlights include a collaborative concert with the CCM Philharmonia on Nov. 4 and 5, featuring J.S. Bach’s Mass in B Minor. The performances will be given at two local churches: Cincinnati’s Christ Church Cathedral on Nov. 4 and Knox Church on Nov. 5.

The fall series culminates with the annual Feast of Carols on Dec. 2 and 3 in CCM’s Corbett Auditorium, featuring collaborations with guest choirs from Walnut Hills High School, Bridgetown Middle School and the Southern Gateway Barbershop Chorus.

CCM Celebrates the Sounds of the Season With Feast of Carols and Cincinnati Children’s Choir Holiday Concerts This Month

Hundreds of voices will fill the stage of Corbett Auditorium this month as CCM celebrates the season with two separate holiday-themed concert programs.

The annual Feast of Carols returns with 2 and 5 p.m. performances on both Saturday, Dec. 5, and Sunday, Dec. 6.

The following Saturday, Dec. 12, CCM ensemble-in-residence the Cincinnati Children’s Choir presents its Holiday Concert with performances at 2 and 5 p.m.

The annual Feast of Carols – a tradition that dates back decades – will embrace a variety of holiday songs ranging from the classic and traditional to the contemporary. CCM’s Chamber Choir, Chorale and Concert Orchestra will be joined by the UC Men’s and Women’s Choruses, Cincinnati Children’s Choir and guest choirs from Elder, Sycamore and Walnut Hills High Schools for four performances of holiday favorites.

Conductors Earl Rivers, Brett Scott, Robyn Lana, Christopher Albanese, Alexander Sutton, David F. Allen, Kenneth Holdt and Anthony Nims invite audiences to sing along to cherished holiday carols during the spectacular “Fa-La-La” finale with audience, combined choirs and CCM’s Concert Orchestra.

The Cincinnati Children’s Choir’s Holiday Concert will feature all 450 members of the Choir, including CCM resident choirs and satellite choirs from across the tri-state area, performing holiday songs from around the globe. Robyn Lana conducts.

An absurdist play amped to the max, The Hunchback of Seville delves into the lives of the monarchy and citizens of 15th-century Spain: the infamous Queen Isabella, the spoiled Infanta Juana (the future Queen of Spain), and the Muslim Talib who is desperately attempting to avoid persecution at the hands of the Spanish Inquisition. All of this revolves around Maxima, a mathematical genius and adopted royal family member who is locked away in a tower and pines for Talib’s love. Smith’s play uses this dark, comedic plot both for laughs and as a serious means to examine sanitized history and human rights injustices both in Spain and the new world that Columbus “discovered.” This exciting collaboration brings CCM drama students to Know Theatre’s stage for a history lesson you won’t get in college!

Funded by a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, CCM Opera and Cincinnati Opera present a rare behind-the-scenes look at the creation of an original work. An opera based on the novel of the same name by Salman Rushdie, Shalimar the Clown revolves around a child named India who loses her father—a United States diplomat to India’s namesake country—to assassination at the hands of his former chauffeur Shalimar. The reasons that led the former clown to murder India’s father tell of the fragility of human life and love, detailing how complicated and non-simplistic our stories are, how large the consequences of our actions can loom, and how great joys can turn into unbearable sadness and senseless tragedy.

William Bolcom’s career is storied: famed pianist, Pulitzer Prize-winning composer, Ragtime revivalist and acclaimed professor at the University of Michigan. Arnold Weinstein, a self-proclaimed “theatre poet,” won acclaim as a lyricist for famed musicals such as Metamorphoses. Brought together by Darius Milhaud, the duo had a prolific partnership from 1964 until Weinstein’s death in 2005. Their collaborations included famed operas such as McTeague, A Wedding and others. Among these works were four sets of cabaret songs written between the 1970s and 1990s. CCM Opera is proud to present the first complete performance of all 24 of these cabaret songs.

Set in a Maine coastal village toward the end of the 19th century, Carousel is the story of carefree carnival barker Billy Bigelow and his reckless adventures with women, gambling and the wrong side of the law. Billy loses his job just as he learns that his wife is pregnant and, desperate to provide a decent life for his family, is coerced into being an accomplice to a robbery. Caught in the act and facing the certainty of prison, he takes his own life and is sent “up there.” Fifteen years later, Billy is allowed to return to earth for one day and encounters the daughter he never knew. How Billy instills in both the child and her mother a sense of hope and dignity is a dramatic testimony to the power of love. Declared “Best Musical of the Century” by Time Magazine in 1999, it’s easy to understand why Carousel became Rodgers and Hammerstein’s personal favorite.

CCM Welcomes the Holidays with Choral Concerts in December

Hundreds of voices will fill the stage of Corbett Auditorium this December as CCM celebrates the season with a pair of holiday-themed concert programs!

The annual Feast of Carols returns with 2 and 5 p.m. performances on both Saturday, Dec. 6 and Sunday, Dec. 7.

The following Saturday, Dec. 13, CCM’s ensemble-in-residence the Cincinnati Children’s Choir presents its Holiday Concert with performances at 2 and 5 p.m.

Only a limited number of seats remain for each of these concerts.

The annual Feast of Carols – a tradition that dates back decades – will embrace an eclectic mix of holiday songs ranging from the classic and traditional to the contemporary. CCM’s Chamber Choir, Chorale and Concert Orchestra, UC Men’s and Women’s Choruses, Cincinnati Children’s Choir and outstanding area guest choirs, including Connor Middle School, Lakota East and Mason High Schools, will perform these treasures sounds.

Conductors Earl Rivers, Brett Scott, Robyn Lana, Christopher Albanese, Alexander Sutton, Becky Bertelsen, Becky Huddilston and Elaine Santos invite audiences to sing along to favorite holiday carols during the spectacular “Fa-La-La” Finale with audience, combined choirs and CCM’s Concert Orchestra.
