The Art of the Piano Summer Festival kicks off May 28 – June 11

The sixth annual Art of the Piano summer festival and concert series will be the “best year yet,” according to Artistic Director and CCM Artist-in-Residence Awadagin Pratt.

Twenty-four student pianists will join 10 internationally acclaimed musicians for a series of master classes and recitals during the Art of the Piano summer festival at CCM.

The students have a unique opportunity to learn from distinguished artists including Vladimir Feltsman, Yoshikau Nagai, Paul Schenly and Boris Slutsky. In addition, six Art of the Piano artist teachers will each perform in a series of concerts throughout the festival.

Each concert is FREE and open to the public; reservations are not required. Student recitals will take place at 7 p.m. in the Cohen Family Studio Theater on May 31, June 1, 3, and 6. The student recitals will feature themed programs of the works of Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Chopin, Liszt, Rachmaninoff and others.

Art of the Piano Concert Series Continues Tonight With Awadagin Pratt and Dennis Thurmond Joint Recital

CCM’s Art of the Piano summer festival and concert series continues at 7 p.m. this evening with a joint recital featuring Tai Chi of Improvisation author Dennis Thurmond and World Piano Competition Artistic Director (and CCM Artist-in-Residence) Awadagin Pratt.

Thurmond and Pratt’s program promises to be a true blending of genres, as the duo present the world premiere of “VII Structures” for two pianos, bass and percussion, which has influences from Bill Evans to Sergei Prokofiev to Keith Jarrett to Olivier Messiaen.

Pratt also promises that the concert will feature a rousing Fourth of July encore!

The Art of the Piano Summer Festival and Concert Series Returns to CCM Village June 27 – July 12

This summer, some of the world’s most sought-after piano performers and pedagogues are in residence at UC’s College-Conservatory of Music. For the next two weeks, CCM proudly presents the Art of the Piano workshop and concert series, curated by CCM faculty member and World Piano Competition Artistic Director Awadagin Pratt.

This year’s festival welcomes master teachers Ning An, Enrico Elisi, Hee Sung Joo, Gabriel Kwok, Myong-joo Lee, Yoshikazu Nagai, Andrey Pisarev and Ory Shihor. Several of these guest artists will present special event concerts during the festival in CCM’s beautiful Robert J. Werner Recital Hall.

The concert series opens at 7 p.m. this Friday, June 27, with a performance by World Piano Competition Jury Member Andrey Pisarev.

Flex ticket packages are available for this year’s Art of the Piano Special Event Concerts featuring Pisarev, Hee Sung Joo, Enrico Elisi, Dennis Thurmond and Awadagin Pratt. All student recitals are free and open to the general public. See below for more information.

CCM Spotlights Talented Young Performers and Acclaimed Guest Artists During Summer 2014 Performance Series

Young artists from all corners of the globe will make their way to Cincinnati this summer to work with CCM’s world-class faculty and renowned guest artists while in residence at the state-of-the-art CCM Village.

CCM offers a wide array of high caliber summer programs, and the general public can experience the artistry themselves during a series of nearly 50 public performances and guest artist recitals running Monday, June 9, through Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014.

A complete schedule of summer performances is listed below, with highlights including the World Piano Competition’s Finalists Concert featuring the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra on June 28, the Art of the Piano’s Guest Artist Recital Series (curated by CCM faculty member and World Piano Competition Artistic Director Awadagin Pratt) running June 27 – July 11, the Classical Guitar Workshop’s Concert Series running July 13 – 19 and a semi-staged production of Donizetti’s L’Elisir d’Amore (The Elixir of Love) on Aug. 9.

CCM’s Preparatory Department also hosts a number of workshops and immersion programs at CCM Village and at various off-campus locations throughout the summer, including the Cincinnati Young Artist Chamber Music Workshop Series, which features performances by Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra cellist and CCM faculty member Alan Rafferty, CCM Professor of Viola Catharine Carroll and CCM string quartet-in-residence the Ariel Quartet. Other highlights include the Centerstage Workshop production of Hoodie playing June 27 – 28 at UC Blue Ash’s Muntz Theater and the Cincinnati Children’s Choir’s summer concert on Aug. 2.
