CCM Voice Student Andrew G. Manea Named Albert Rees Davis Scholar by the Singers’ Club of Cleveland

Late last year, CCM master of music in voice candidate Andrew G. Manea was named one of three Albert Rees Davis Scholars in the S. Livingston Mather Scholarship Competition sponsored by the Singers’ Club of Cleveland. A previous Albert Rees Davis Scholar, Manea received a $1,250 cash award.

Manea was one of 16 singers selected from 28 applicants to compete for five scholarships funded by the S. Livingston Mather Charitable Trust, the George L. Founded in 1892, the Singers’ Club of Cleveland presents a repertoire of traditional men’s choral music, bold commissioned works and modern compositions. In addition, the Club undertakes challenging pieces typically reserved for professional choruses. A cross section of Greater Cleveland, the members come from varied ages and backgrounds, all sharing a love for performing outstanding vocal music.

A baritone, Manea has performed numerous opera roles at Music Academy of the West, Palacio de la Opera in A Coruña, Spain, Castleton Festival and Cleveland Institute of Music. He sang the role of Father in CCM’s production of Engelbert Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel earlier this season.

UC Hosts Free Performing and Visual Arts College Fair for Creative College-Bound Students on Oct. 15

The University of Cincinnati welcomes the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) and its Cincinnati Performing and Visual Arts College Fair on Tuesday, Oct. 15, from 7–9 p.m. at the Tangeman University Center Great Hall. Admission is free and open to the public.

College-bound high school students interested in pursuing undergraduate and graduate studies in the areas of music, dance, theatre, visual arts, graphic design and other related disciplines are encouraged to attend this informational event.

CCM will also be hosting “Choosing the Right Music School for You – The Fit Factor Workshop,” a special panel discussion from 5:45–6:30 p.m. in room 417 of the Tangeman University Center. Panelists from major music schools and conservatories, including the Cleveland Institute of Music and the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University will discuss different types of music schools and how to choose the one to best suit your needs. Students and parents attending the NACAC fair are invited to participate in this discussion.

CCM Welcomes Pianist, Conductor and Master Teacher Leon Fleisher for Residency

CCM welcomes internationally renowned conductor and Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Chair of Piano Leon Fleisher for a residency in conjunction with our Conducting Beethoven Workshop this week.

Recipient of the 2007 Kennedy Center Honors and subject of the 2006 Oscar-nominated short documentary Two Hands: The Leon Fleisher Story, Fleisher is widely recognized as one of the world’s truly great artists.

Fleisher will lead master classes in UC’s Robert J. Werner Recital Hall from 10-11:30 a.m. this Saturday and from 2-4 p.m. this Sunday. Both sessions are open to the general public, but seating is limited.

On Tuesday, April 3, the Consulate of Italy in Detroit and CCM are pleased to present a benefit concert for the Associazione Nazionale Famiglie Emigrati’s (National Association of Immigrant Families or ANFE) Light of Life Fund featuring Massimo La Rosa, principal trombone for the Cleveland Orchestra, accompanied by Elizabeth DeMio, pianist.
