Continuing the spirit of Halloween, CCM Opera Theatre and the Philharmonia Orchestra join forces to present a fully staged concert version of Benjamin Britten’s operatic thriller, The Turn of the Screw, in the Patricia Corbett Theater on the University of Cincinnati campus from November 5-7, 2010.

CCM Jazz Ensemble – Mean to Me

Continuing our new series of CCM Audio posts, we present the CCM Jazz Ensemble performing Mean to Me.

The CCM Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Lab Band open their season this Sunday, Oct. 17, with “Big Band Celebration,” a concert featuring the landmark works of Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Woody Herman and more. Tickets are still available at the CCM Box Office!

CCM Choral Honors Program Founder in Very Special Concert

On Sunday, Oct. 24, CCM’s Choral Studies Program presents a very special concert event. “Elmer Thomas’ 80th Birthday Concert” celebrates CCM Professor Emeritus and Choral Studies-founder Elmer Thomas. Thomas was a member of CCM’s faculty from 1966-1995, elevating the Choral Studies Program to international recognition during that time. His birthday concert will feature the CCM Chamber Choir and Chorale, UC Men’s and Women’s Choruses, Cincinnati Children’s Choir and Vocal Arts Ensemble performing a variety of choral classics. Earl Rivers, Brett Scott, Brandon Dean, Olga Artemova, Robyn Lana and Stephanie Nash conduct.

CCM Wind Studies ushers in the new school year with everything from contemporary Great Britain wind music, to staples in the American standard wind repertoire. Conductors Rodney Winther and Terence Milligan both partake in this wonderful spectrum of celebrated wind music and usher in a new school year with many celebrated works.

CCM Opens Studio Series with the Original Work “Under Construction II”

CCM’s acclaimed Studio Series opens later on this month with the debut of Under Construction II, a new work conceived and choreographed by Diane Lala. “Constructed” with creative input from the performers, Under Construction II explores aspects of love, separation, temptation, deceit, desire and discovery through dance. The work employs a variety of dance styles set to selections by Peter Gabriel, John Williams, Peter Frampton and others to capture the ever-evolving nature of human passion. The production runs Oct. 21 – 23, 2010.

Married CCM Educators to Share the Spotlight at Carnegie Hall

Two CCM educators will share the stage in a unique way at Carnegie Hall on October 24, when violinist Jennifer Roig-Francolí will perform the world premiere of a new piece composed by her husband, CCM Professor of Music Theory and Composition Miguel Roig-Francolí. Mrs. Roig-Francolí, a violinist and CCM Preparatory Department faculty member, will perform “Songs of the Infinite” with pianist Adam Kent at the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in New York on October 24 at 7 p.m.

CCM Musical Theatre Grads Key to New Broadway Show

Musical Theatre graduate Josh Brekenridge plays Owen Montgomery in the new Kander and Ebb musical, The Scottsboro Boys, previewing today on Broadway. Musical Theatre graduate Eric Santagata is the assistant director and choreographer to Susan Stroman.

The Associated Press called the pre-Broadway production at the Guthrie Theatre, “Pitch perfect! A staggeringly inventive piece of musical theatre! Entertainment of the highest order, with inspired direction and choreography by Susan Stroman. An exhilarating evening of theatre!” Expections for the Broadway run are very high. Break a leg, Josh and Eric!

CCM’s Annunziata Tomaro Receives Second Prize in International Pedrotti Conducting Competition

CCM faculty member Annunziata Tomaro recently received one of two second prizes (no first prize was awarded) at the International “Antonio Pedrotti” Competition for Orchestra Conductors in Trento, Italy. From a pool of over 500 applicants hailing from 30 countries, 97 conductors took part in the competition, which ran from Sept. 27 through Oct. 2.
