Join us this evening for a special preview performance of the Tony Award-winning rock-umentary, Evita. CCM’s Mainstage Series brings Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s beloved musical to life in Corbett Auditorium tonight through Sunday, Nov. 21. Tickets for this evening’s special preview performance are still available for just $22 ($27-$29 for all other performances).

American Opera Legend Returns to CCM

CityBeat‘s Anne Arenstein and the Cincinnati Enquirer‘s Janelle Gelfand each take a closer look at Carlisle Floyd’s current residency at CCM – you can view the CityBeat story here and the Cincinnati.com piece here.

The “Evening With Carlisle Floyd” concert event is scheduled for this Wednesday, Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. in Patricia Corbett Theater. Maestro Floyd will be joined by renowned pianist George Darden and CCM student artists for an evening celebrating Floyd’s life in the theater. This special concert event is free and open to the general public.

CCM Dance Presents Their Fall Concert Dec. 3-5

The CCM Ballet Ensemble present their Fall Concert Dec. 3 – 5 in Patricia Corbett Theater. The concert showcases two world premieres by award winning choreographers and CCM faculty members Jiang Qi (with CCM composer Michael Fiday) and Michael Tevlin. The event also features a re-staging of the “Pas de Deux” from Don Quixote by CCM faculty and former American Ballet Theatre ballerina Deirdre Carberry and additional works by adjunct faculty members Ka-Ron Lehman Brown and Suzette Boyer Webb.

CCM Singer Advances to Met Opera Nationals

Congratulations to mezzo-soprano Audrey Walstrom, one of two singers to win first prize in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Regional Auditions held at the Music Institute of Chicago last weekend. Walstrom, who shared first place with baritone Ryan Milstead, will advance to the national semifinals in March. Janelle Gelfand provides more details here.

CCM Students and Alumni Featured in Cincinnati Boychoir Performance of Handel’s “Messiah”

Four current and former CCM students will be featured soloists in the upcoming performance of Handel’s Messiah by the Cincinnati Boychoir. On December 11-12, soloists Kelly Ballou (soprano), John Holiday (countertenor), Ian McEuen (tenor) and Michael Dauterman (baritone) will join the boys and men of the Cincinnati Boychoir as they perform Part I (the Christmas portion) of Handel’s masterpiece along with other holiday favorites. Outside of New York, Cincinnati will be the only place in the U.S. in 2010 where a choir of boys and men will perform Messiah.

CCM Returns to Spoleto for Second Season

CCM has announced its lineup for the second installment of CCM Spoleto, a five-week festival and summer course in Spoleto, Italy. Spoleto, Italy is home of the famous Festival dei Due Mondi (also known as Festival di Spoleto), which was founded by Gian Carlo Menotti. In honor of Menotti’s 100th birthday in 2011, CCM Spoleto will present The Telephone (Menotti) as well as Rossini’s Il Signor Bruschino. The double bill will be directed by Robin Guarino (J. Ralph Corbett Distinguished Chair of Opera, CCM; Metropolitan Opera) and conducted by Annunziata Tomaro (CCM faculty; 2010 Pedrotti finalist).

CCM Commemorates the 400th Anniversary of Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610

On Sunday, Nov. 21, CCM’s Choral and Orchestral Departments present a concert commemorating the 400th Anniversary of Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610. The core large-scale masterwork in the international repertory of the Early Music movement, Monteverdi’s masterpiece will be performed by the CCM Chamber Choir and Philharmonia Chamber Orchestra. This lavish presentation will be embellished with guest period instrument artists playing cornettos, theorbo, gamba and Baroque harp. Earl Rivers conducts. Sponsored by CCM’s Tangeman Sacred Music Center, the concert will be held at Christ Church Cathedral on Fourth and Sycamore in downtown Cincinnati at 5 p.m on Nov. 21. Admission to the concert is free. CCM will host a special reception for our Mainstage Subscribers post-concert. More details after the jump.
