CCM Shares Artistic Menu of Moveable Feast Performances

Cincinnati’s premier fundraiser returns next Friday, Jan. 17, 2020, when UC’s College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) presents Moveable Feast. Take a look at this year’s artistic menu to create your own schedule of 20-minute samplings of live entertainment, along with backstage tours and much more.

For one night only, Cincinnati audiences can experience CCM’s student stars of tomorrow in a variety of performances that showcase the full spectrum of the performing and media arts. Tickets to Moveable Feast are on sale now and can be purchased online at ccm.uc.edu/moveablefeast or over the phone at 513-556-2100.

The festivities begin with cocktails and appetizers at 6:30 p.m. CCM’s Jazz Orchestra kicks off the performances with a tribute to The Rolling Stones in Corbett Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Then attendees are free to roam CCM Village to create their own menu of artistic experiences including a dazzling light show, acting, dance, musical theatre and opera performances; concerts by CCM’s Chamber Choir, Steel Drum Band, Chamber Winds and piano students; and more! The evening concludes with a grand finale performance by the CCM Philharmonia Orchestra at 10 p.m. in Corbett Auditorium.

Hosted by CCMpower — a dedicated volunteer group comprised of fans, advocates and alumni — Moveable Feast showcases students and faculty members in an evening of world-class live entertainment. This year’s Moveable Feast celebrates the contributions of Trish Bryan to CCM and the Cincinnati arts community. Bryan has been instrumental in creating the artistic landscape that is unique to the Queen City. She has served as the President of the Friends of CCM (now CCMpower), Chair of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra Board of Trustees, Chair of the Board of Trustees for the American Classical Music Hall of Fame and lent her expertise and time to countless arts organizations. Her leadership and service to the Cincinnati arts community and to CCM has been invaluable and helped to create the thriving artistic community that we enjoy in Cincinnati today.

The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music commemorates 150 years of excellence in the performing and media arts when its Moveable Feast fundraising event returns on Friday, Jan. 19, 2018. Featuring a special guest appearance by alumnus Brian Newman (Jazz Studies, att. 1999-2003), this year’s anniversary-themed Feast also celebrates the contributions of two CCM supporters with unique ties to the college’s history: Tom Baur and Peter Landgren.

In honor of CCM’s 150-year legacy of inspiring the stars of tomorrow, this year’s program also features a performance by alumnus Brian Newman, who will solo with the Jazz Orchestra as the “opening course” on Moveable Feast’s artistic menu. As an accomplished trumpeter and vocalist, Newman’s brand of jazz resurrects the magic of Old New York, refreshing the glamorous era with nuances of his own rock-‘n’-roll edge. Bandleader for Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett, Newman will also cap off the evening at the new Blue-Note After Party. Featuring performances by Newman and a rotating cast of CCM alumni and students, this exclusive after party lasts from 10:30 p.m. until midnight, allowing attendees to dance the night away after the conclusion of Moveable Feast. CCM’s Music For Food Concert Features Piano Trios by Beethoven and Schubert

UC’s College-Conservatory of Music concludes the second year of its chamber music series supporting Music For Food at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 5 at the Dieterle Vocal Arts Center. Part of a national musician-led initiative to raise resources and awareness in the fight against hunger, CCM’s Music For Food concert benefits Cincinnati’s Freestore Foodbank.

The concert exclusively features acclaimed guest artists, the Lee-Cho-Katz Trio. Founding cellist of the world-renowned Cleveland Quartet and a master teacher at the New England Conservatory, Paul Katz joins violinist Catherine Cho and pianist Pei Shan Lee to perform piano trios by Beethoven and Schubert in concert.

CCM’s Music For Food concert is presented by series coordinators Lydia Brown, Gwen Coleman Detwiler and the Ariel Quartet. In lieu of paid admission, concert attendees are asked to bring a donation of non-perishable food items or cash for the Freestore Foodbank.

New for 2017! Each year, CCM’s Moveable Feast provides Cincinnati audiences with an opportunity to see the performing and media arts “stars-of-tomorrow” before they’re famous. This year’s program also features a performance by one of CCM’s acclaimed “Broadway babies,” as alumna Christy Altomare (BFA Musical Theatre, 2008) returns to CCM to provide a preview of her next Broadway role! Recently cast as Anya in the new Broadway musical production of Anastasia, which features music by acclaimed composer and fellow CCM graduate Stephen Flaherty (BM Composition, 1982), Altomare will perform the Oscar-nominated song “Journey to the Past” with the CCM Philharmonia Orchestra as the “opening course” on this year’s artistic menu.

Anastasia’s promotional team will be on campus to film Altomare’s Moveable Feast performance, which will then be used to promote the show’s Broadway run. Anastasia opened to rave reviews at the Hartford Stage; the show comes to Broadway’s Broadhurst Theatre on March 23, 2017.

Altomare’s performance kicks off three hours’ worth of fully customizable arts experiences. Cocktails and dinner-by-the-bite provided by Jeff Thomas Catering will be served throughout the evening.

CCM Musical Theatre Presents Annual Senior Showcase March 26 and 28

Cincinnati audiences will get a sneak peek of an original showcase created by the 2015 graduating class from CCM’s Department of Musical Theatre during the annual “Not Famous Yet” Showcase, which runs on March 26 (Friends of CCM benefit performance) and March 28 in UC’s Patricia Corbett Theater.

The March 26 benefit performance starts at 7 p.m. and features dinner by the bite and a post-performance celebration. Tickets for this benefit event are on sale now. For tickets and additional information, visit ccm.weshareonline.org/ws/opportunities/NotFamousYetShowcase2015.

The March 28 performances take place at 4 and 8 p.m. and are free, but reservations are required. Tickets for these free performances become available at noon on Monday, March 23.

Each year, seniors from CCM’s musical theatre program travel to New York to present a showcase for the leading agents, casting directors and managers in the business. The show takes the format of a Broadway audition, with the actors showing off their solo and ensemble skills through song and dance numbers. The work is created by the students themselves under the supervision of program chair Aubrey Berg and with the assistance of musical director Julie Spangler.

This year’s performance is the 23rd edition of the CCM “Not Famous Yet” showcase. The annual showcase began with the establishment of the Patricia A. Corbett Distinguished Chair of Musical Theatre in 1991. Friends of CCM Benefit Performance
The opening performance of the Musical Theatre Showcase on March 26 is part of a benefit for the Friends of CCM. The event begins at 7 p.m. and includes dinner by the bite.

This event also includes the presentation of the Musical Theatre Young Alumni Award, which recognizes outstanding professional achievement by graduates of CCM’s musical theatre program from the past two decades. This year’s recipient is Mickey Fisher, who graduated from UC in 1995.

A writer, director and actor, Fisher created and serves as executive producer for Extant, a science fiction television program developed by Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television and CBS Television studios. The thriller stars Academy Award-winner Halle Berry and is currently shooting its second season. Fisher’s credits also include the films King of Iron Town and Summer Nuts, as well as the musical Something in the Water.

• General Public Tickets: $75 each; includes general performance seating, dinner by the bite and garage parking.

CCM Students Present the Fourth Annual Carols for a Cause Benefit Concert

Students from CCM’s Departments of Drama and Musical Theatre are joining forces to present the fourth annual “Carols for a Cause” benefit concert at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 26. This year’s holiday cabaret will take place at the Rohs Street Café (located at 245 W. McMillan Street, right next to the campus of the University of Cincinnati). Doors open at 7:30 p.m.

CCM’s Nov. 19 Brass Showcase Concert To Raise Funds For Red Cross Hurricane Relief Efforts

CCM presents its annual fall Brass Showcase at 8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 19 in Corbett Auditorium. This concert will serve as a fundraiser to assist the American Red Cross in Hurricane Sandy Relief efforts.

Admission to the concert is free. Representatives from UC’s student chapter of the Red Cross will be at CCM to collect monetary donations. Learn more about the concert after the jump.
