CCM Alumna To Star in Lyric Opera of Chicago’s New Production of ‘Oklahoma!’

CCM alumna Ashley Brown (BFA in Musical Theatre, 2004) will star as Laurey Williams in Lyric Opera of Chicago’s new production of Oklahoma!, to be presented in May under the direction of Gary Griffin. Brown previously played Magnolia in Lyric Opera’s production of Show Boat and was seen in the title role of the original Broadway production of Disney’s Mary Poppins.

The new production of Oklahoma! includes the original choreography by Agnes De Mille. Learn more here.

CCM alumnus Colt Prattes (BFA in Musical Theatre, 2007) stars opposite P!nk in the new music video, “Try.” Prattes has toured nationally in musicals and on Broadway in West Side Story and How to Succeed in Business WIthout Really Trying with Daniel Radcliffe.

CCM Drama Presents Touchstones of the American Gay Canon of Dramatic Literature This Fall

Later this fall, CCM’s Studio Series proudly presents The Laramie Project by Moisés Kaufman and members of the Tectonic Theater Project. As a lead-in to this powerful production, CCM’s Department of Drama will also host a unique play reading series and symposium from Oct. 15–19, exploring other cultural touchstones of the American gay canon of dramatic literature. These events are intended for mature audiences.

CCM E-Media Welcomes Distinguished Alumnus Larry Hamby for Master Classes Next Week

CCM is proud to welcome alumnus Larry Hamby (BFA 1973) back to campus next week for a series of E-Media master classes on Oct. 4 and 5. A graduate of what was then known as the Broadcasting program at UC, Hamby has become a major figure in the recording industry.

The former senior vice president of Sony/BMG Entertainment, Hamby has worked with a “who’s who” of recording greats, including John Denver, Bob Dylan, Kenny Rogers, the Carpenters, Moody Blues, Michael Jackson, Heart, REO Speedwagon, Cheap Trick, Willie Nelson, George Winston, Etta James, Yo Yo Ma and Joshua Bell. He has also signed many notable artists, such as Mary Chapin Carpenter, Imogen Heap and Sharon Isbin. Hamby was the recording project supervisor for Michael Jackson’s album Thriller.

CCM welcomes alumnus David Daniels (BM, 1990) back to campus for a master class from 3–5 p.m. this Friday, Sept. 28, in UC’s Robert J. Werner Recital Hall. This master class is free and open to the public. Reservations are not required.

CCM alumnus and Mamma Mia! star Aaron Lazar (MFA ’00) was featured on Broadway.com’s “Broadway Buzz” column earlier this week.

Aubrey Berg at the Cincinnati Conservatory gave me the chance to perform with the best in the country in Broadway caliber productions,” Lazar explains. “I had two years of invaluable time spent learning the art of musical theater from Bubba. He directed me as Cervantes/Quixote in Man of La Mancha and to this day it’s one of the top performances I’ve given.”
