The National Opera Association has announced the results of its annual Opera Production Competition and CCM’s 2010-11 Mainstage, Studio and Undergraduate Series of Operas have again received some of the competition’s highest honors.

This weekend, CCM proudly presents Francis Poulenc’s gripping opera Dialogues of the Carmelites (Dialogues des carmélites). Based on a true story, this heartbreaking saga of martyred nuns runs through May 15 in CCM’s Corbett Auditorium. You can read Janelle Gelfand’s preview of the opera here.

CCM completes its record-breaking Mainstage Season with the intensely psychological journey encapsulated in Francis Poulenc’s gripping opera Dialogues of the Carmelites (Dialogues des carmélites). Based on a true story, this heartbreaking saga of martyred nuns runs from May 12-15, 2011 in CCM’s Corbett Auditorium on the University of Cincinnati campus. CCM Provides Splendid 400th for Monteverdi’s Landmark Vespers of 1610

On Sunday, Nov. 21, CCM held its first Subscriber Thank You Event of the year at Christ Church Cathedral in Cincinnati. The CCM Chamber Choir and Philharmonia Chamber Orchestra performed Montevderi’s Vespers of 1610 at this very special concert. Music in Cincinnati‘s Mary Ellyn Hutton provides an excellent review of the concert here.

CCM Commemorates the 400th Anniversary of Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610

On Sunday, Nov. 21, CCM’s Choral and Orchestral Departments present a concert commemorating the 400th Anniversary of Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610. The core large-scale masterwork in the international repertory of the Early Music movement, Monteverdi’s masterpiece will be performed by the CCM Chamber Choir and Philharmonia Chamber Orchestra. This lavish presentation will be embellished with guest period instrument artists playing cornettos, theorbo, gamba and Baroque harp. Earl Rivers conducts. Sponsored by CCM’s Tangeman Sacred Music Center, the concert will be held at Christ Church Cathedral on Fourth and Sycamore in downtown Cincinnati at 5 p.m on Nov. 21. Based on the classic novel by Nobel Prize-winning author John Steinbeck, Of Mice and Men tells the story of George and Lennie, two displaced farm hands during the Great Depression. Chasing the American dream to someday own their own stake of land, the pair travels across the California countryside in search of work. When their journey leads them into trouble, one friend must make a tragic choice to save the other. Sung in English with supertitles. Opening night will feature special pre- and post-performance talks by Maestro Carlisle Floyd.
