CCM launches its 2010-11 Mainstage Series with Thornton Wilder’s classic comedy The Matchmaker. Sure to induce a chuckle with its timeless humor and slapstick flair, the fun-loving show runs from Oct. 27 (preview) through Oct. 31 in CCM’s Patricia Corbett Theater on the University of Cincinnati campus.
MFA Lighting Design graduate Tanya Harper just finished up a major project lighting the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games Opening Ceremonies on September 25th. The event was held at the Main Stadium at the Kentucky Horse Park and featured a number of equestrian acts (including William Shatner with one of his harness horses), headliners Wynnona Judd, Denyce Graves, Ronan Tynan and the University of Kentucky Orchestra. Harper described the project as, “A great experience and one I know I could never have accomplished without the education that CCM gave me.”

The fall 2010 Jazz Series celebrates everything from the Big Band standards of Duke Ellington and Count Basie to the fresh and hot compositions of CCM students and faculty. As the College-Conservatory of Music Jazz Studies program ushers in the 2010-11 season, it also warmly welcomes a new Director of Jazz Studies, Scott Belck.
CCM Orchestras will begin its fall concert season with the Schumann Bicentennial Festival, a celebration of Schumann’s timeless compositional prowess and diverse repertoire. Performances will showcase symphonies, overtures and the Piano Concerto in A Minor, with soloist and Eminent Scholar in Chamber Music, James Tocco. Ulrich Nicolai, conductor and professor at the Hochscule für Musik und Theater (University of Music and Performing Arts) in Munich, will guest conduct the festival’s opening and closing concerts. A series of free Schumann Festival Atrium Concerts will also be held to commemorate the 200th Anniversary of Robert Schumann’s birth.
Honestly, we love all of Apple’s iPod/iPhone/iPad ads, but we’re particularly fond of this one. Why? The ad is catchy and playful and just happens to feature the music of CCM Jazz Studies grad Chris Olson and his band, Chappo. You can check out the video below. Learn more about the band at their official website.
