CCM Grad Lights Equestrian Games Opening Ceremony

MFA Lighting Design graduate Tanya Harper just finished up a major project lighting the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games Opening Ceremonies on September 25th. The event was held at the Main Stadium at the Kentucky Horse Park and featured a number of equestrian acts (including William Shatner with one of his harness horses), headliners Wynnona Judd, Denyce Graves, Ronan Tynan and the University of Kentucky Orchestra. Harper described the project as, “A great experience and one I know I could never have accomplished without the education that CCM gave me.”

CCM Jazz Studies Welcomes New Director and Prepares for a Sizzling 2010-11 Season

The fall 2010 Jazz Series celebrates everything from the Big Band standards of Duke Ellington and Count Basie to the fresh and hot compositions of CCM students and faculty. As the College-Conservatory of Music Jazz Studies program ushers in the 2010-11 season, it also warmly welcomes a new Director of Jazz Studies, Scott Belck.

CCM Orchestras Commemorate the 200th Anniversary of Robert Schumann’s Birth

CCM Orchestras will begin its fall concert season with the Schumann Bicentennial Festival, a celebration of Schumann’s timeless compositional prowess and diverse repertoire. Performances will showcase symphonies, overtures and the Piano Concerto in A Minor, with soloist and Eminent Scholar in Chamber Music, James Tocco. Ulrich Nicolai, conductor and professor at the Hochscule für Musik und Theater (University of Music and Performing Arts) in Munich, will guest conduct the festival’s opening and closing concerts. A series of free Schumann Festival Atrium Concerts will also be held to commemorate the 200th Anniversary of Robert Schumann’s birth.

Honestly, we love all of Apple’s iPod/iPhone/iPad ads, but we’re particularly fond of this one. Why? Announcing CCM’s Fall 2010 Schedule of Major Events

With the start of UC’s fall quarter mere days away, we are happy to announce our full fall schedule of major events. CCM presents nearly 1,000 public events throughout the year and offers free admission to many of its performances. All events listed take place on the CCM campus and are free unless otherwise indicated. Announcing CCM’s 2010-11 Studio Series

CCM is pleased to announce details for the 2010-11 CCM Studio Series of opera, musical theatre and drama. This year’s Studio Series features seven productions in CCM’s intimate and versatile “black box” space, the Cohen Family Studio Theater, along with a special Studio Series opera produced in Patricia Corbett Theater and a festival of new dramatic works that will utilize spaces throughout CCM Village.

The Studio Series runs from Oct. 21, 2010 through May 29, 2011. All Studio Series events held in CCM’s Cohen Family Studio Theater are free and open to the general public, although reservations are required. City officials of the Comune di Spoleto honored the artistic and cultural contributions of the CCM Spoleto Festival, now in its inaugural year, at a gala dinner on Saturday, August 7.  The Pro Loco di Spoleto, a volunteer organization that promotes the city and local activities, hosted the reception.
