Featuring talented students from ages nine through adult, the CCM Youth Ballet Companies perform the annual Fall Youth Ballet Concert on Dec. 8-9, 2017.

CCM Preparatory and Community Engagement presents the Fall Youth Ballet Concert at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 8, 2017, and Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017. Jonnie Lynn Jacobs-Percer directs the mixed-repertoire ballet performance, which features the students of the CCM Youth Ballet Companies.

The annual dance concert features talented CCM Prep students from ages nine through adult, performing traditional and contemporary works choreographed by CCM Prep students and faculty. Tickets are available through the CCM Box Office.

The program opens with Strangers in the Night, set to music by Frank Sinatra with choreography by CCM Prep student Anna Faist. CCM Prep students will then perform an excerpt from Napoli, also known as The Fisherman and His Bride. This story ballet, originally choreographed in 1842 by Danish choreographer August Bournonville, tells the tale of an Italian girl who falls in love with a poor fisherman. The pair finally wed after they endure many trials and tribulations, and their friends present special dances at their wedding. These wedding dances will be performed at the Fall Youth Ballet Concert.

The main highlight of the performance is Babes in Toyland, featuring music by Victor Herbert with choreography and direction by CCM Prep ballet faculty members Thomas Bell, Ana Bird, Heather Cameron-Johnson, Jonnie Lynn Jacobs-Percer, Sergey Pakharev and Tricia Sundbeck. Originally an operetta, this work focuses on Mary-Mary Quite Contrary and Tom-Tom the Piper’s Son, two residents of Mother Goose Land. They hope to get married, but the sinister town miser, Barnaby, has other plans for them. They encounter mischievous trees, an evil toy maker and other conniving characters along the way, but ultimately the couple finds their happily ever after.
