The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) is delighted to announce its fall schedule of major events. The largest single source of performing arts events in the state of Ohio, CCM presents more than 120 major public performances from Sept. 4 through Dec. 14, ranging from faculty and guest artist concerts to fully supported opera, musical theatre, drama and dance productions.

All events listed here will take place in CCM Village on the University of Cincinnati campus unless otherwise indicated. Admission is free to many CCM performances, although some events do require purchased tickets or reservations. Please see individual event information for details and ordering information.

Carmine Caruso was one of the world’s greatest brass teachers. This competition is dedicated to the man and his work. In celebration of the 200th anniversary of Giuseppe Verdi’s birth (Oct. 10, 1813), CCM proudly presents the 1867 Paris Opera version of the grand opera Don Carlos in concert. CCM’s Concert Orchestra performs Act I through the first half of Act III of Verdi’s most complete operatic statement at 2 p.m., followed by the Philharmonia performing the second half of Act III through Act V beginning at 7 p.m. This production will be sung in French.

One of the most-loved and celebrated MGM film musicals, Singin’ in the Rain comes to the CCM stage in a joyous, graceful and thoroughly enjoyable adaptation. Set in 1927, the musical satirizes the panic surrounding the transition from the “Silents” to the “Talkies” as the revolution in sound sweeps through the Hollywood dream factory. With great songs, lots of flashbacks and buckets upon buckets of rain, this musical promises to shower audiences with good old-fashioned entertainment. The glorious score includes such standards as “Good Morning,” “Make ‘em Laugh,” “You Are My Lucky Star” and the legendary “Singin’ in the Rain.”

Featuring George Balanchine’s masterpiece Serenade set to Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for String Orchestra in C Major, Op. 48, staged by one of the pre-eminent authorities on the work of Balanchine: guest répétiteur Joysanne Sidimus. In addition, Assistant Professor Deirdre Carberry restages “The Kingdom of the Shades,” Act II of Petipa’s La Bayadère, to music by Ludwig Minkus. Set in the Royal India of the past, it is a story of eternal love, vengeance and justice. Finally, Professor Jiang Qi restages The Unseen, an exhilarating work by Victoria Morgan, choreographer and artistic director of the Cincinnati Ballet, to Opuses from Mendelssohn’s Songs Without Words.
