CCM will present its annual celebration of the art of the piano with “Pianopalooza VIII: A New Perspective” at 7 p.m. on Sunday, April 21, in UC’s Corbett Auditorium.
In a format different from previous years, which focused on CCM’s distinguished piano faculty, “Pianopalooza VIII” is student driven, both in performance and planning. The concert will feature outstanding student performers in a stunning variety of repertoire – every style from Beethoven to Earl Wild and Astor Piazzolla. The performance will feature student artists from each of CCM piano studios.
Two student MCs will host the event, charting a narrative that explores the education of pianists at CCM. This narrative will guide the concert’s program and reflect the chosen repertoire. For the finale, the audience can expect to enjoy a four-piano, 16-hand arrangement composed by one of CCM’s DMA students.
Pianopalooza first came to life as a way to entertain Cincinnati audiences enthusiastic or curious about piano music and also as a way to feature faculty members on a single, celebratory concert. Proceeds from the event help the CCM Piano Department fund guest artist residencies, master classes and occasional assistance with student travel to competitions and recitals. In 2009, Pianopalooza gained national attention when it was featured on CBS Sunday Morning after CCM became an All-Steinway School.
