Panelists for the League of Cincinnati Theatres (LCT) have recognized CCM’s Mainstage Series production of The Time of Your Life with two LCT nominations, for Ensemble in a Play and for scenic design (Mark Halpin). Congratulations to everyone involved with this production!
William Saroyan’s sprawling, elegant and bittersweet play was the first drama to win both the Pulitzer Prize and the Drama Critics’ Circle Award. Set in a waterfront bar on the docks of San Francisco, the play is filled with colorful characters, love and the follies of humanity in what the New York Post calls a “tender and hilarious, probing and elusive” portrait of life.
Panelists praised Mark Halpin’s “beautifully detailed, well designed, and functional” set. The ensemble cast “showed mature, deep understand of their characters, from leads to walk-ons”; “this was an ensemble delight…with strong and lively performances.”
Final LCT awards will be determined at the end of the season and announced at the LCT gala in the spring. CCM’s Mainstage Series continues with The Threepenny Opera (Feb. 28 – March 10), named one of “13 Performances that Promise to Melt Your Heart” by the Cincinnati Enquirer.
A part of CCM’s year-long Kurt Weill Festival, The Threepenny Opera is set in an anachronistic Victorian London envisioned by Tony Award-winning guest scenic designer John Arnone and brought to life by CCM’s theatre design and production students. The Threepenny Opera is directed by Robin Guarino with musical direction by Roger Grodsky and choreography by Patti James. This production includes mature subject matter.
