CCM is proud to welcome alumnus Larry Hamby (BFA 1973) back to campus next week for a series of E-Media master classes on Oct. 4 and 5. A graduate of what was then known as the Broadcasting program at UC, Hamby has become a major figure in the recording industry.
The former senior vice president of Sony/BMG Entertainment, Hamby has worked with a “who’s who” of recording greats, including John Denver, Bob Dylan, Kenny Rogers, the Carpenters, Moody Blues, Michael Jackson, Heart, REO Speedwagon, Cheap Trick, Willie Nelson, George Winston, Etta James, Yo Yo Ma and Joshua Bell. He has also signed many notable artists, such as Mary Chapin Carpenter, Imogen Heap and Sharon Isbin. Hamby was the recording project supervisor for Michael Jackson’s album Thriller.
“I have always enjoyed the chance to speak to students about the music industry. Most of the time I learn at least as much from them as they do from me,” says Hamby. “Having the opportunity to finally visit my very own alma mater and join in some classes feels not only right, but exciting. It should be a fun couple of days.”
Hamby will tour CCM E-Media’s facilities and meet with the Advanced Music Production class next Thursday, Oct. 4. He will then take part in “Media in Your Life” and “Media Issues and Ethics” classes on Friday, Oct. 5. You can learn more about his visit here.
