On Sunday, April 1, Italian classical guitar virtuoso Oscar Ghiglia celebrates his 38th annual residency at CCM with a solo recital of his concert favorites. The concert begins at 4 p.m. in CCM’s Robert J. Werner Recital Hall.
A graduate of Santa Cecilia’s Conservatory of Rome and an apprentice of the influential classical guitar master Andrés Segovia, Ghiglia is the founder of the Guitar Departments at the Aspen Music Festival, the Festival de Musique des Arcs and the “Incontri Chitarristici di Gargnano.”
Aside from CCM, Ghiglia has also been an artist in residence or visiting professor at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, the Juilliard School, the Hartt School and the Northwestern University of Evanston, Ill.
Besides touring as a solo performer, Ghiglia has played and recorded with such names as singers including Victoria de Los Angeles, Jan de Gaetani, Gerald English and John mc Collum; flutists including J.P. Rampal and Julius Baker; ensembles including the Juilliard String Quartet, the Emerson String Quartet, the Cleveland String Quartet, the Quartetto d’archi di Venezia and the Tokyo String Quartet; violinists including Giuliano Carmignola, Franco Gulli, Salvatore Accardo and Regis Pasquier; violist including B. Giuranna and P. Zuckerman; cellists including K. Adam, A. Roman and L. Varga; and guitarists including E. Fisk, S. Fukuda, L. Guerra, Antigoni Goni and Elena Papandreou.
