The Preparatory Department of the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM Prep) is now accepting registrations for its 2012 summer programs. Programs will be offered at UC’s Clifton campus and at UC Blue Ash College.
This year’s new program offerings include a theatre camp for adults and a ballet camp for young dancers featuring story ballets.
“We are excited to offer a program for adults,” says Amy Dennison, assistant dean of CCM Prep. “This community has many theatre enthusiasts and we think they’ll love to spend a week working with our talented faculty and honing their skills.” Entitled “This is Our Time,” the program will be held at Sycamore Senior Center in Blue Ash July 9 – 13, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. The cost is $200.
Also new this year, CCM Prep will offer a ballet camp for young dancers called “Once Upon a Time,” featuring story ballets. CCM Prep will continue to have ballet classes throughout the summer at convenient evening and Saturday times. Three camps will be offered at UC Blue Ash College during the week of June 11 – 15. “The Young Actor’s Toolbox” for ages 4 to 7 and “Camp Bravo” for children ages 8 to 14 will focus on the theater elements of singing, acting, dancing and creating. In addition, young string students can participate in a summer orchestra camp for children in grades 3 to 8.
Returning programs include performance camps that will rehearse and perform Disney Kids’ Sleeping Beauty and Getting to Know… Once Upon a Mattress. These camps require an audition, which will be held in April. The Cincinnati Piano Institute returns for its eighth year, along with the popular High School Jazz Ensemble and the Saxophone Symposium.
The Crescendo12 Chamber Music Festival and Encore Advanced Chamber Orchestra will appeal to talented musicians. Auditions will be held in March. Musical Theatre and Drama Workshops will also be held for high school students.
Housing and accommodations will be available for high school students attending the musical workshop, Crescendo12 and Encore Orchestra programs. All of our programs conclude with a performance showcase. UC faculty, staff and Clifton Hospital employees receive discounts on most programs, as well as additional discounts for specific camps.
