Guest artist Pritam Bhartwan

Guest artist Pritam Bhartwan joins the CCM Himalayan Music Ensemble for free concert.

CCM and the Himalayan Music ensemble welcome guest artist Pritam Bhartwan for a concert featuring the rhythmic energy of the music of the Himalayas and northern India. The concert will be held on Tuesday, October 25 at 8 pm in the Cohen Family Studio Theater on the University of Cincinnati campus and is free and open to the public.

Performed for the first time in North America, the ecstatic music of the central Himalayas combines ornate vocals with dense, interlocking rhythmic patterns performed on a variety of indigenous percussion and wind instruments. Renowned folk singer, drummer and ritual healer Pritam Bhartwan joins CCM ethnomusicology professor Stefan Fiol and the Himalayan Music ensemble at CCM to demonstrate the full range of expressive culture from the Himalayan region, including possession ceremonies, heroic ballads, festival dance-songs and music for seasonal rituals. Also featured on the tabla is CCM faculty member James Feist.
