CCM will support disaster relief efforts in Japan by donating proceeds from the sixth annual Pianopalooza concert to the cause. This year’s event takes place at 7 p.m. on Sunday, April 17 in Corbett Auditorium and celebrates the sounds of the piano with performances by CCM student pianists from Japan along with CCM faculty.
“CCM, particularly the Piano Department, has always had a special cultural relationship with the great musical institutions of Asia, and quite a few of our students come to study here directly from their home cities in Japan,” said Michael Chertock, chair of the CCM Piano Department.
Prior to Pianopalooza VI, CCM will hold the second annual Bearcat Piano Festival from April 14-17. The Bearcat Piano Festival takes place in the Robert J. Werner Recital Hall and will include a master class by Markus Groh, an acclaimed German-born pianist who will soon debut with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, and a master class and recital by Ann Schein, an internationally renowned pianist and recording artist, among other events (schedule below).
Pianopalooza VI promises to be an exhilarating event, featuring both solo and ensemble music spanning genres and boundaries. A perfect listening opportunity for the student, the accomplished teacher, and the merely curious, Pianopalooza VI celebrates “200 Years of Franz Liszt and Friends.”
The concert features performances by CCM faculty members Michael Chertock, Awadagin Pratt, Eugene and Elisabeth Pridonoff and CCM student pianists from Japan. The event takes over CCM’s Corbett Auditorium on Sunday, April 17 at 7 p.m. with WLWT’s Jack Atherton as the event’s emcee.
Tickets for Pianopalooza are $15 general admission, $10 non-UC students and FREE to UC students. The proceeds from this concert will be donated to disaster relief efforts in Japan. Call the CCM Box Office at 513-556-4183 to order. Admission to the Bearcat Piano Festival master classes and recitals is free.
