CCM Preparatory student Tim Ovia will perform at the 53rd-annual Grammy Awards this February as a member of the Grammy Jazz Choir. Ovia, a Finneytown High School senior, was one of 8 students chosen for the choir out of hundreds of applicants.
Ovia will travel to Los Angeles for a weeklong stay as part of the choir, participating in rehearsals, performing at local jazz clubs and finally singing at the Grammy Awards as a back-up group. Naturally, Ovia is most excited about the opportunity to sing at the Grammy’s, but is also looking forward to learning from the experience. “I am excited about singing with my fellow peers and getting to know new people. I’ve always wanted to go to California and I never dreamed that I would be spending my time doing this while I was there. It’s all just a blessing to me,” explains Ovia.
Ovia has been studying at CCM Prep with Chris Neely for over a year now and receives a full scholarship from an outside funding source. His career goals match his talent, as he hopes to major in college in classical vocal performance and, in contrast, psychology. One of his potential college choices is, in fact, CCM. “I have been to numerous concerts and plays at CCM. My hope would be to attend CCM because I love the atmosphere and the instructors are really devoted to the growth of their students.” After college, Ovia knows what his goal is. “I want to make an impact in the world with my God given talent of creating music.”
