Next month, CCM’s Department of Collaborative Piano will host an exceptional residency by renowned international author, lecturer, collaborative pianist and recording artist Graham Johnson. CCM will present Johnson in public master classes on Jan. 7 and 8, 2011. Johnson will be joined by CCM students, presenting vocal works of both Franz Schubert and Gabriel Fauré. He will also hold a public lecture on that Friday evening devoted to Schubert’s life and vocal works.
Graham Johnson, who comes to Cincinnati from London, England, is one of the world’s busiest collaborative pianists, partnering with most of the great European singers of the past 30 years. He has led various recording projects for the British Hyperion label, perhaps the most outstanding being the highly acclaimed 37-volume set of the complete Lieder of Franz Schubert. Johnson has also recorded the complete songs of Gabriel Fauré for the label.
All master class sessions are open to the general public. Johnson will hold a Schubert Lieder master class from 12 p.m. -3 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 7. He will hold a public lecture at 7 p.m. that evening. Finally, Johnson will hold a Fauré Mélodie master class from 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 8. All events will be held in the Robert J. Werner Recital Hall in CCM Village.
