Evan Mack (DMA ‘08), a former student of William Black and Michael Chertok, recently returned to Cincinnati to hear the premiere of three excerpts from his opera, Angel of the Amazon, which is to be staged in New York City at the beginning of May by the Encompass Opera Company.
Those who have heard the whole piece report that the complete opera is really stunning and, as Janelle Gelfand reported, the music has overtones of Barber and other neo-romantic composers, as well as Latin American instrumental colors. Mack now teaches at two colleges in Albany, NY.
