CCM Presents Piano Celebration and Festival This Week

CCM will present its annual celebration of the art of the piano with Pianopalooza VII at 7 p.m. on Sunday, April 15, in Corbett Auditorium. This year’s event will be preceded by the third annual Bearcat Piano Festival, which will present master classes and recitals from April 12–14 in CCM’s Robert J. Werner Recital Hall.

This year, Pianopalooza welcomes guest of honor Frank Weinstock back to the CCM stage. A dedicated member of the faculty for 30 years, Weinstock served as Professor of Piano and also held key administrative appointments during his tenure, providing leadership as Interim Dean of CCM from January 2010 through August 2011. Recently retired, Weinstock will be playing Franz Shubert’s Impromptus as part of Pianopalooza VII’s program.

The artistry of E-Media senior Kyle Howland will be on display at the 10:30 a.m. Cincinnati Pops Lollipops Family Concert on  Saturday, Jan. 28. Howland’s video will accompany the “Infernal Dance” and “Finale” from Stravinsky’s The Firebird.

CCM ushers in a new school year with a thrilling lineup of fall Winds Series events and a new Director of Wind Studies, Glenn D. Price. Price comes to CCM from the University of Calgary, where he conducted the University of Calgary Wind Ensemble, and is also an internationally acclaimed conductor, appearing with wind orchestras and festivals around the world.

Under Price’s direction, CCM’s Wind Symphony and Chamber Players will perform a vast array of stirring pieces of the Winds repertoire, including memorable jazz numbers, motifs encompassing the musical worlds of Britain and France and the unmistakable sounds of Stravinsky.

CCM Announces 2011-12 Mainstage Series

Today, we are pleased to announce details for the 2011-12 CCM Mainstage Series of drama, musical theatre and opera productions. This year’s unforgettable Mainstage Series features a moving drama by Helen Edmundson and a ravishing comedy by Tom Stoppard, bold and enchanting musical theatre by Rodgers & Hammerstein and Stephen Sondheim and sublime operas by Mozart and Stravinsky. The series features six fully-staged works, with performances taking place Oct. 27, 2011 through May 13, 2012. Subscriptions are on sale now, single tickets go on sale later this summer.
