CCM’s 2012-13 Eminent Scholars Concert Series comes to a close at 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 11, in UC’s Robert J. Werner Recital Hall with a performance by Eminent Scholar in Chamber Music James Tocco, piano, and distinguished guest artists and Tchaikovsky Competition Award Winners Itamar Zorman, violin, and David Geringas, cello.

Admission to this performance is free. Reservations are not required.

The centerpiece of this concert will be Tchaikovsky’s Piano Trio in A Minor, Op. 50. The program will also include Mieczyslaw Weinberg’s Sonata No. 2 in G Minor for Cello and Piano, Op. 63; and Paul Hindemith’s Sonata for Solo Violin No. 1, Op. 31.

The Ariel Quartet’s Inaugural CCM Concert Series Concludes on April 9

The internationally acclaimed Ariel Quartet brings its first season in residence at CCM to a conclusion with a concert at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9, in UC’s Robert J. Werner Recital Hall.

The Quartet will be joined by distinguished guest artist David Geringas, cello, for Anatolijus Senderovas’ David’s Song for Cello and String Quartet and Alexander Glazunov’s String Quintet in A Major, Op. 39.

The program will also feature Beethoven’s Quartet No. 1 in F Major, Op. 18.

Renowned cellist Claudio Bohórquez comes to CCM for a master class on March 5.

CCM welcomes renowned cellist Claudio Bohórquez for a master class from 7 – 10 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5 in UC’s Robert J. Werner Recital. This session is free and open to the general public.

The master class will kick off with a solo performance by Bohórquez, who will then be joined by the Ariel Quartet for a movement of the Schubert Cello Quintet!

Bohórquez is not only an incredibly experienced and versatile performer, but he also holds the main Cello professorship at the Hochschule für Musik in Stuttgart as well as a guest professorship at the Hanns Eisler Hochschule für Musik in Berlin.

The CCM Trombone Studio is proud to present acclaimed trombonist Jörgen van Rijen in a 4 p.m. master class and 8 p.m. recital on Thursday, Feb. 21 in UC’s Robert J. Werner Recital Hall.

Principal trombone of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam, Van Rijen’s commitment to promoting his instrument, developing new repertoire, and bringing existing repertoire to a broader audience has taken him throughout Europe, North America, Asia and Australia as a soloist and teacher.

According to Luister Magazine, “Van Rijen is a real ambassador of his instrument, which is still not often used as a virtuoso brass instrument among composers. But there are not that many trombonists who reach the brilliant level of Van Rijen. In sound, dynamic colour, musical understanding and expressiveness, Van Rijen is unequalled…”

CCM proudly presents the fourth annual Bearcat Piano Festival this week. Master classes and recitals run Thursday, Feb. 7, through Saturday, Feb. 9, in UC’s Robert J. Werner Recital Hall. Special guests include Daniel Shapiro, Arnaldo Cohen and Dror Biran.

The Ariel String Quartet‘s inaugural CCM concert series continues at 8 p.m. next Tuesday, Dec. 4 in UC’s Robert J. Werner Recital Hall. Winners of the Fischoff Grand Prize, the Quartet’s program is scheduled to include:

  • Erwin Schulhoff: String Quartet No.1
  • Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: String Quartet No. 21 in D Major, KV 575
  • Johannes Brahms: Piano Quintet in F Minor, Op. 34 (featuring James Tocco, piano)

CCM Welcomes Pianist, Conductor and Master Teacher Leon Fleisher for Residency

CCM welcomes internationally renowned conductor and Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Chair of Piano Leon Fleisher for a residency in conjunction with our Conducting Beethoven Workshop this week.

Recipient of the 2007 Kennedy Center Honors and subject of the 2006 Oscar-nominated short documentary Two Hands: The Leon Fleisher Story, Fleisher is widely recognized as one of the world’s truly great artists.

Fleisher will lead master classes in UC’s Robert J. Werner Recital Hall from 10-11:30 a.m. this Saturday and from 2-4 p.m. this Sunday. Both sessions are open to the general public, but seating is limited.

This Sunday, the Constella Festival of Music and Fine Arts brings Metropolitan Opera Orchestra principal clarinetist Anthony McGill to CCM’s Robert J. Werner Recital Hall for a festival-opening celebration. The performance begins at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 30, and students can purchase discount tickets for just $10!
