CCM Jazz Welcomes Special Guest Steven Bernstein For Evening of James Bond Film Music on March 10

CCM’s Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Lab Band welcome guest artist and guest composer Steven Bernstein for a concert that is guaranteed to be “Shaken, Not Stirred” at 007 p.m. on Sunday, March 10, in UC’s Corbett Auditorium.

“Special agents” from CCM’s award-winning Lighting Design program will help present this evening of James Bond film music with a dynamic and colorful twist. Scott Belck and Dominic Marino conduct.

“Shaken, Not Stirred” features Bernstein’s adaptations of composer John Barry’s iconic and legendary James Bond film scores. Barry, who died in January 2011 at the age of 77, scored 11 James Bond films between 1963 and ’87. He composed a number of other highly acclaimed film scores, including those for Dances with Wolves and Out of Africa, both Grammy Award winners.

Celebrated jazz trumpeter Byron Stripling joins the CCM Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Lab Band for a concert tribute to brilliant jazz virtuoso Louis Armstrong at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 17, in UC’s Corbett Auditorium. Scott Belck and Dominic Marino conduct.

Hear the hits of the legendary “Satchmo” and his hometown of New Orleans brought to life as Stripling joins CCM’s big bands on stage for one night only. Tickets are on sale now.

CCM Prep Announces 2013 Summer Programs

The CCM Preparatory Department (CCM Prep) is proud to announce its 2013 summer programs. Opportunities are available for students of all ages to discover and expand their artistic abilities!

This year, CCM will host its first Summer Arts Immersion program for high school students. This program is ideal for both local and out-of-town students who want to experience the excellent faculty and outstanding facilities at CCM. Students may wish to experience dorm life by staying in the nearby residence halls, fully chaperoned by CCM Prep staff. One- and two-week options are available in Musical Theatre, Acting, Dance, Voice, Jazz Ensemble, Wind Ensemble, Saxophone, Chamber Music and String Orchestra. The Summer Arts Immersion program runs from June 10-22, 2013. Complete information including costs, registration and audition information is available here.

Many opportunities abound in CCM Prep’s Jump In program for younger students, as well as adult learners. These one- and two-week opportunities offer beginning and more advanced students the chance to dance, sing, act and play music. Two Jump In programs are inclusive and welcome special learners: “World Drumming” and “You Can Uke,” directed by CCM Prep faculty member and music therapist Mimi Sinclair. CCM Celebrates Film Music With Special Concert on Jan. 27!

CCM presents a special treat for fans of film music this Sunday, as the acclaimed Philharmonia Orchestra and Jazz Ensemble go to the movies for the evening, celebrating the sounds of the cinema in UC’s Corbett Auditorium!

The Jan. 27 program will open with selections from classic film scores such as A Streetcar Named Desire before moving on to the work of singer/songwriter, arranger, film scorer and distinguished UC alumnus Randy Edelman (CCM ’69, HonDoc ’04)!

The Jan. 27 concert will also include Edelman’s symphonic piece Transcontinental: A Mad Musical Dash Across the USA, which was premiered by the Cincinnati Pops several years ago and which will be dedicated to the loving memory of Maestro Erich Kunzel.

CCM welcomes distinguished UC alumnus Randy Edelman (CCM ’69, HonDoc ’04) back to Corbett Auditorium for one unforgettable evening beginning at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 27. A prominent singer, songwriter, arranger and film scorer, Edelman will bring his film scores to life during this special event concert featuring CCM’s acclaimed Philharmonia Orchestra and Jazz Ensemble.

As a singer/songwriter, Edelman has recorded dozens of solo albums and has toured with popular music acts like the Carpenters and Frank Zappa. His pop songs have been covered by major recording artists including Barry Manilow (“Weekend in New England”) and Olivia Newton-John (“If Love is Real”).

Edelman has also composed over 100 scores for television and film. He wrote the theme to, and scored many episodes of television’s MacGyver and scored dozens of major motion pictures, including The Last of the Mohicans, Gettysburg and DragonHeart. CCM’s Philharmonia and Jazz Ensemble will present these and other works during the Jan. 27 concert event. CCM’s ‘A Moveable Feast’ Returns on Jan. 18, 2013!

Cincinnati’s premiere fundraiser returns in early 2013 when CCM presents “A Moveable Feast!”

The festivities begin at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 18, and this year’s “Feast” celebrates the theme “A Star is Born.”

A star-powered showcase of CCM’s world-class performing and media arts programs and state-of-the-art facilities, the fundraiser features samplings of artistic and culinary delights throughout CCM Village. Guests can enjoy backstage tours and plan their own schedule of 20-minute samplings of student entertainment, including Jazz, Musical Theatre, Piano, Opera, Drama, Dance, Orchestra and Chamber Winds performances, along with E-Media video productions and performances by students from CCM’s Preparatory Department. This year’s artistic menu also includes a performance by CCM’s Steel Drum Band and entertainment by local CCM Alumni.

The evening’s program will begin in Corbett Auditorium with a prelude performance featuring the Jazz Ensemble and dancers from CCM’s Musical Theatre program. The “Feast” will conclude with a performance by the Philharmonia Orchestra. Cocktails and dinner-by-the-bite provided by Jeff Thomas Catering will be served throughout the evening. CCM Announces Spring 2013 Calendar of Major Events

CCM's Spring 2013 Calendar of Events.

CCM is delighted to announce its spring schedule of performances. The largest single source of performing arts events in the state of Ohio, CCM presents more than 100 major public performances from Jan. 12 through May 19, ranging from faculty and guest artist concerts to fully supported opera, drama and musical theatre productions.

CCM’s spring semester performance schedule includes the return of Cincinnati’s premiere fundraiser “A Moveable Feast” on Jan. 18, an evening of motion-picture music featuring acclaimed film composer and distinguished UC alumnus Randy Edelman on Jan. 27, a celebration of Giuseppe Verdi’s sacred masterwork Requiem on Feb. 1 and 2, a monumental “Mahler Marathon” on March 2, the Ariel String Quartet’s inaugural season finale on April 9, a guest artist recital by acclaimed tenor Lawrence Brownlee on April 13 and the eighth installment of CCM’s popular Pianopalooza concert on April 21.

Also this spring, CCM’s Division of Electronic Media presents the 10-part Global Lens Film Series (Jan. 14 – April 15), Cincinnati Children’s Choir celebrates its 20th anniversary (March 9), the Classical Guitar Department celebrates its 40th anniversary (April 6) and CCM’s year-long Kurt Weill Festival continues with a variety of unique concerts and productions (Feb. 28 – March 12).
