CCM’s stars of tomorrow will be shining bright in a wide variety of concerts and productions running this weekend!

CCM’s 2012-13 Studio Series concludes with a production of Emily Mann’s powerful docu-drama Execution of Justice, running through April 20 in UC’s Cohen Family Studio Theater. CCM’s Ballet Ensemble also presents its annual Spring Dance Concert this weekend, with performances running through April 20 in Patricia Corbett Theater. This year’s program features unique collaborations with CCM’s Chamber Choir and Chamber Players. Learn more about this production here.

At 8 p.m. this Saturday, April 20, the CCM’s Chorale and Concert Orchestra join forces with a variety of special guests to present Benjamin Britten’s Spring Symphony and other works in Corbett Auditorium! Learn more about this performance here.

CCM proudly presents the final installment of the 2012-13 Studio Series with a production of Emily Mann’s powerful docu-drama Execution of Justice, directed by CCM Professor of Drama Michael Burnham. Execution of Justice runs April 18-20 in UC’s Cohen Family Studio Theater. Admission is free, but reservations are required. This production contains mature subject matter.

A chilling examination of the trial of Dan White for the murder of Harvey Milk, San Francisco’s first openly gay Supervisor, and Mayor George Moscone, Execution of Justice puts the trial on trial and measures the distance between “politics,” “action” and “the law.”

CCM Drama Presents Touchstones of the American Gay Canon of Dramatic Literature This Fall

Later this fall, CCM’s Studio Series proudly presents The Laramie Project by Moisés Kaufman and members of the Tectonic Theater Project. As a lead-in to this powerful production, CCM’s Department of Drama will also host a unique play reading series and symposium from Oct. 15–19, exploring other cultural touchstones of the American gay canon of dramatic literature. These events are intended for mature audiences.

CCM Announces Fall 2012 Calendar of Major Events

CCM is delighted to announce its fall schedule of performances. The largest single source of performing arts events in the state of Ohio, CCM presents more than 100 public performances this fall, ranging from faculty and guest artist concerts to fully supported opera, drama and musical theatre productions.

This fall’s schedule includes a Beethoven Festival (Sept. 14 – Oct. 12), a Kurt Weill Festival (Oct. 19 – March 10) and a Cage Centennial Celebration (Nov. 5 – Nov. 29). CCM also collaborates with Cincinnati Opera on public workshop performances of two new American operas (Oct. 27 – 28 and Dec. 4 – 5) and presents a pair of concerts in conjunction with the Constella Festival of Music and Fine Arts (Oct. 10 and Oct. 28).

Star-Studded Jazz Series Continues This Week At CCM

Earlier this week on her Arts in Focus blog, the Enquirer‘s Janelle Gelfand recapped Cincinnati native Fred Hersch’s intimate recital at CCM, performed before a packed house in Corbett Auditorium.

CCM Jazz’s spring concert series continues at 7 p.m. this Sunday, April 8, as Grammy Award-winner Bob Belden and Grammy-nominee Tim Hagans join CCM’s Jazz Ensemble and Philharmonia Orchestra to present Belden’s acclaimed masterpiece Black Dahlia.

CCM Students and African Refugees Bond Through Theatre

Last June, CCM sent a contingent from our Drama Program to create theatre with residents of Dadaab, the world’s largest refugee camp. This month, UC Magazine takes a look back at the life-changing project in its “beyond our borders” issue.

CCM Celebrates Modern Jazz Legends

The CCM Department of Jazz Studies will kick off its spring concert series with a pair of exciting and star-studded collaborative concerts. On Sunday, April 1, CCM’s Jazz Ensemble and Faculty Jazztet will be joined by Cincinnati-native and three-time Grammy Award nominee Fred Hersch for an intimate night of beautiful music.

The Jazz Ensemble will then join forces with CCM’s Philharmonia Orchestra and award-winning arranger and composer Bob Belden to present his celebrated work Black Dahlia in its entirety on Sunday, April 8. Both concerts begin at 7 p.m. in Corbett Auditorium.

CCM Drama Students to Create Theater Projects With Youth Refugees in Kenya

This June, five CCM Drama students will take part in an original theater project that brings the power of the performing arts to the world’s largest refugee camp – the Dadaab Refugee camp in Kenya, which houses 268,000 refugees.

The pilot Dadaab Theater project will involve CCM students working with African youth refugees to share and create original theater projects, culminating in a performance on World Refugee Day in Nairobi, Kenya on June 20. CCM Drama Chair Richard E. Hess will accompany students Alyssa Caputo, Cameron Davis, Kristopher Dean, Will Kiley and Mikayla Stanley as they travel to Kenya for a week to share their talents in this new cultural exchange program.
