CET Cincinnati Public Television Broadcasts Premiere of ‘Monteverdi From CCM’ on May 12

CET Cincinnati Public Television will premiere Monteverdi from CCM at 8 p.m. on Sunday, May 12, on the CET Arts channel. This program is part of an exciting new collaboration between CCM and CET, which will bring CCM’s world-class performances to PBS viewers throughout the Greater Cincinnati viewing area.

Monteverdi from CCM was shot on location in CCM Village in November of 2012. The performance features CCM’s Chamber Choir, Early Music faculty members, students and guest artists presenting highlights from Claudio Monteverdi’s Madrigals of Love and War and Selva Morale e Spirituale.

CCM’s stars of tomorrow will be shining bright in a wide variety of concerts and productions running this weekend!

CCM’s 2012-13 Studio Series concludes with a production of Emily Mann’s powerful docu-drama Execution of Justice, running through April 20 in UC’s Cohen Family Studio Theater. CCM’s Ballet Ensemble also presents its annual Spring Dance Concert this weekend, with performances running through April 20 in Patricia Corbett Theater. This year’s program features unique collaborations with CCM’s Chamber Choir and Chamber Players. Learn more about this production here.

CCM Dance Presents Annual Spring Concert April 18-20

CCM presents its annual Spring Dance Concert April 18-20 in UC’s Patricia Corbett Theater. This year’s featured performances include a unique collaboration between Dance Division students and CCM’s Chamber Choir and Chamber Players. The concert program also boasts two world premieres by dance faculty members. Tickets are on sale now.

CCM Celebrates the 200th Anniversary of Verdi’s Birth With Performances of ‘Requiem’

CCM’s Philharmonia Orchestra, Chamber Choir and Chorale will present a rare two-evening run of Giuseppi Verdi’s Requiem at 8 p.m. on both Friday, Feb. 1, and Saturday, Feb. 2, in UC’s Corbett Auditorium. Tickets are on sale now.

CCM mounts these performances in celebration of the 200th anniversary of the composer’s birth, which will be Oct. 10, 2013. Huge choral and orchestral forces come together for this highlight of the 2013 CCM Orchestra Series, with choirs prepared by Earl Rivers, director of Choral Studies, and Brett Scott, Choral Studies faculty member, as well as performances led by Maestro Mark Gibson, director of Orchestral Studies and of the CCM Philharmonia.

Soloists for both performances include:

• CCM alumna Helen Lyons, soprano, who most recently returned to sing the title role in CCM’s acclaimed 2011 concert performance of Puccini’s Turandot;
• Leah de Gruyl, mezzo soprano, who sang Mother Goose in CCM’s Mainstage production of Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress in 2012;
• CCM alumnus Daniel Weeks, tenor, who was both a national finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and the winner of the National Federation of Music Clubs’ Young Artist Competition.
• Andrew Funk, bass, who recently performed with Opera Lyra Ottawa, San Francisco Opera, Opera Boston, Arizona Opera and Chicago Opera Theater.
• Yi Li, tenor, a winner of the CCM 2012 Opera Scholarship Competition and Musical America’s “New Artist of the Month” for March 2012;
• Nathan Stark, bass, who recently served as a cover in Britten’s Billy Budd at the Metropolitan Opera.

CCM Announces Spring 2013 Calendar of Major Events

CCM is delighted to announce its spring schedule of performances. The largest single source of performing arts events in the state of Ohio, CCM presents more than 100 major public performances from Jan. 12 through May 19, ranging from faculty and guest artist concerts to fully supported opera, drama and musical theatre productions.

CCM’s spring semester performance schedule includes the return of Cincinnati’s premiere fundraiser “A Moveable Feast” on Jan. 18, an evening of motion-picture music featuring acclaimed film composer and distinguished UC alumnus Randy Edelman on Jan. 27, a celebration of Giuseppe Verdi’s sacred masterwork Requiem on Feb. 1 and 2, a monumental “Mahler Marathon” on March 2, the Ariel String Quartet’s inaugural season finale on April 9, a guest artist recital by acclaimed tenor Lawrence Brownlee on April 13 and the eighth installment of CCM’s popular Pianopalooza concert on April 21.

Also this spring, CCM’s Division of Electronic Media presents the 10-part Global Lens Film Series (Jan. 14 – April 15), Cincinnati Children’s Choir celebrates its 20th anniversary (March 9), the Classical Guitar Department celebrates its 40th anniversary (April 6) and CCM’s year-long Kurt Weill Festival continues with a variety of unique concerts and productions (Feb. 28 – March 12).

CCM Choirs Welcome the Holidays With Feast of Carols

More than 300 voices will fill the stage of Corbett Auditorium with favorite holiday songs during CCM’s annual Feast of Carols on Dec. 8 and 9. The festivities will include treasured sounds of the season performed by CCM’s Chamber Choir, Chorale and Concert Orchestra, UC Men’s and Women’s Choruses, Cincinnati Children’s Choir and outstanding area guest choirs, including the May Festival Youth Chorus, School for Creative and Performing Arts Chorale and Winton Woods High School Varsity Ensemble.

Performances will take place on Saturday, Dec. 8, at 5 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 9, at 2 and 5 p.m. in UC’s Corbett Auditorium. Due to overwhelming demand, a small number of limited-view tickets will become available at noon on Monday, Dec. 3. Please contact the CCM Box Office for more information.

CCM Choral Series Presents Culmination of ‘Monteverdi Project’ on Nov. 28

CCM’s Chamber Choir teams with Early Music faculty, students and guest artists for an evening featuring highlights from Claudio Monteverdi’s secular masterwork (Book 8: Madrigals of Love and War) and sacred collection (Selva Morale e Spirituale) beginning at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 28 in Corbett Auditorium.

The performance is the apex of CCM’s Monteverdi Project, made possible through a generous grant from the Willard and Jean Mulford Charitable Fund of the Cambridge Charitable Foundation. Directed by Earl Rivers, and featuring the CCM Chamber Choir, the Monterverdi Project has been coached by CCM Early Music Faculty members Vivian Montgomery, harpsichord, and Annalisa Pappano, gamba and lirone. Guest artist continuo members include Michael Leopold, theorbo; Elizabeth Motter, Baroque harp; Jennifer Roig-Francolí, Baroque violin; James Lambert, contrabass and gamba; Yaël Senamaud, Baroque violin; and Rodney Stucky, archlute and Baroque guitar.

This concert event will be recorded for future broadcast as part of an exciting new collaboration between CCM and CET, Cincinnati Public Television.

CCM Announces Collaboration With CET Cincinnati Public Television

CCM’s internationally acclaimed performing ensembles will be coming to a television near you courtesy of a new collaborative arrangement with CET, Cincinnati Public Television. CCM’s upcoming Monteverdi Masterworks (Nov. 28, 2012) and Mahler Marathon (March 2, 2013) concerts will be recorded for future broadcast on the CET Arts Channel, initiating an ongoing partnership between the two organizations.

“This was an idea that had ‘yes’ written all over it,” explains Peter Landgren, CCM Dean and Thomas James Kelly Professor of Music. “I know from my own experiences that performing for television cameras and live microphones brings you to a greater level of focus as a musician. This is an unparalleled opportunity for our students. I want to thank CET Executive Vice President and Station Manager Jack Dominic for initiating this partnership and for giving us this platform to showcase the talent of CCM.”
